Tru by Hilton Manchester Downtown

This was our first stay at a Tru by Hilton. Our son had recommended it, and we were very pleased. The staff was helpful with whatever we needed. The room was clean and comfortable. (We would have liked a second chair, but there really wasn't room for that.) The breakfast options were fine, and we appreciated the easy access to the Common Man restaurant in the lowest level. Because of a snowstorm we had to extend our stay by a day, and that process was simple, too.

Positive: The staff was just great! Especially the manager on Wed of my stay. Staff bent over backwards to accomodate my special dietary needs, making me a gluten-free bagel, seeing to my every need & question. Those 3 were so helpful!! TNX!! Negative: Door into the room was heavy to open for someone with back troubles. On the flip side, it made me feel more secure, as a woman travelling alone, once inside.

We arrived very early, 9am from New York and they agreed to accommodate an early check in, that was a significant relief. The room was clean, warm and equipped with everything we needed. The hotel is located minutes from the mall, shops and restaurants, "The Common Man" bar and restaurant is located at the ground floor and the food there was 10/10. Not much of a view. I wish the room had a coffee maker and space to store our clothes. The lobby has a nice selection of games and places to chill with the family, atmosphere is nice. One counter person was rude when I inquired about extending our stay, she directed me to book online. But on the next day, another one was very kind and helpful. The cleaning crew would often turn off the heat in the room in January. When I arrived it was midnight and the room was down to 55F. I turned the heat on and took a shower. By the time I was done it was warmer so I go to bed. Then the heat comes on and starts to make a squealing noise. I was too tired to deal with it then. I accepted it for the night and the staff did get it fixed the next day. The halls were often filled with people leaving their takeout trash outside their door. One day my room was skipped for room service. None of these are major issues but enough of an inconvenience I will not be back.

Climate system in the room was convoluted. Water temperature in the shower was wildly inconsistent. Stains on the towels. Weird gross squeeze-style soap dispensers. Zero closet space, not a single drawer to be found, just some hooks and a tiny bar with hangers. Interacting with staff was like pulling teeth, could barely get a word out of them. Last but not least, this is what the sink water looked like. Do not recommend. This review does not include the restaurant downstairs since that’s its own entity. THAT place was amazing and we highly recommend it.
