Tropics Motor Hotel

This place really grew on me over the short time I stayed there while at Coachella. At first it was just a place for me and my new friend to hang out after the Coachella festival, but as the week went on it became like a second home. It is reasonably sized so unpacking my stuff such as my indian headband, hand moisturizer, and lipstick was no problem. The bathroom was a little cozy and the ventilation was not so good so it steamed up so much that a thick layer of steam formed onto the mirror but that was actually what we were looking for. The floor was a little slippery and I fell one time but that might be because of the lotion on my feet. There was good wifi in the room so I was able to post some good Instigrams of me and my friend at the festival. The ceiling was a little low so when

I stayed at this motel for six nights earlier this month (Sept. 2014). The room did NOT "smell funny" as stated by some others who have commented, there WAS soap, conditioning shampoo, body lotion. The pillows were not good, but the large bed was comfortable and I was given a room with a refrigerator and microwave. I only asked for maid service twice while I was there, but the cleaning person did not do a very good job - left my full garbage can in the room, so I took it out myself. Also, did not wash the countertop at all. However, towels were changed, and the shower stall was cleaned. Shower was good and water was hot. The a/c was too powerful and would not adjust. We've loved the Tropics since we first stayed in 2013. It's basic, no-frills and a total throwback to a lost era. When we returned this time, the decor has been refreshed (but fortunately not too much) and the manager is less surly (that's a welcome improvement) but otherwise it's our reliable go-to when we're in the area. If you're looking for luxury or most modern perks, keep looking, but if you want a quirky, clean enough room in a place that has withstood the shifting winds of motel trends, it's a good choice.

The staff was friendly. Room was a little dated, which added to the experience of a classic motor hotel. Great experience as a part of my cross country motorcycle voyage. Rooms are quiet. Parking lot is secure. The one downside I could think of is the train that runs by rather frequently. If your a sound sleeper it shouldn't be a problem. It didn't shake the building like I've seen others say. Also they don't blow the horn which is good. All you hear is a mild vibration. I would stay here again absolutely.

This Motel is simple, affordable and conveniently situated near the 10 highway. The room I had was clean enough and the bed and bedding were clean and comfortable and the shower worked. The bottom line is, this is a motel and not a proper hotel so for anyone to expect anything more is only going to throw you off. If you are traveling and just need a place to rest and freshen up, this motel is just right, if you expect room service and fancy soaps and lotions in your room, there are much more expensive hotels around the area. ||There is a good Mexican cafe with a 4 minute walk from this motel, what more do you need ???|
