Timberline Lodge

We traded a city stay in Portland for a winter New Years Eve getaway at Timberline, and the scenery did not disappoint. As East Coasters, we found the skiing superior to what we’re used to, though we spent more time enjoying the lodge atmosphere and the breathtaking elevation.||The Highlights|The Vibe: The rooms are nostalgic, clean, and cozy. Note that rooms and bathrooms are small, and the lodge gets incredibly quiet at night—bring a white noise machine for the creaky floors and doors (and the Poopouri spray if you are staying with your spouse, no exhaust!)|Morning/Afternoon: The 2nd-floor fireplace lounge is perfect for morning coffee (free on tap) and a book. Fantastic place to stay. This historic lodge, completed in 1937 by the WPA, has retained all of its original character. Beds have been updated with comfortable mattresses. We had a great view of the mountain top from our second floor room. Beautiful heated outdoor pool and long jacuzzi. Bring a bathrobe (unless you opt for a fireplace room) as it is cold outside in winter. And check out the giant fireplaces in the main lobby. Complimentary coffee from Portland Coffee Co and tea from Steven Smith are available there from 6:00 am to around 9:00 am. All the restaurants in the lodge have high quality food and drinks. This is a very comfortable hotel. The staff is high quality. Genevieve at the front desk was very welcoming and professional. The highlight was the pool and hot tub. The food was good. The rooms are very cozy and perfect for a night or two. I look forward to returning.

Rooms were made by craftsmen in the 1930s … amazing WPA project that employed many who would otherwise have gone hungry and remained unemployed. Watch the film downstairs. It was a real treat staying here and we used the pool sauna (recently updated) and hot tub. I happened to mention it was my husband’s birthday and they left us sparking cider & Timberline cookies in the room! We will be back!

Went up for the view and to see the historic logde. The lodge was very rustic and cool inside. We ate lunch which was very good. We had a view of the upper mountain during lunch. A little foggy outside but still beautiful. Loved the vibe and will go back again!
