This is a charming & relaxing place to stay. There are a couple of restaurants on the premises that make it convenient. It is also a very short walk to the village with shops, groceries, and a variety of food & beverage places. I have stayed here many times throughout the years and it was always kept nice. This past year it has gone downhill and hopefully will regain its appearance with new owners.
We have visited the Woods Inn three times over the past 8 years. Our first visit, in early October 2018, was fabulous. We loved the ambiance, the place was spotless and well cared for, and the Overlook restaurant was a gourmet feast. They also served a nice breakfast daily (if memory serves, it was a buffet, but with real food). |Our second trip was a bit later in October 2022 and we learned that they were under new ownership. The Overlook restaurant was closed for the season, though we were not informed of that when we made reservations and they no longer served breakfast. It was a challenge to find a nice restaurant in the area on short notice and it was impossible to find a gluten free breakfast anywhere closer than Old Forge. |Since the owners were new, we decided to give it on
Lost the chef. Dining room serves bar food now. Steak was not able to be chewed. Companion has chicken and noodle thing. Pasta was not drained; flooded plate and the chicken part was microwaved to the point it was hard. Total failure. On the bright side our waitress was very nice.
Great place to stay, nice people. great location, but our room was never cleaned. trash never emptied even after asking. they said they would but never did (4 days) |never changed towels either. it was like we were not there. conventional breakfast was later and later every day. the last day of our stay they were just setting it out at 9:30. for the price we paid I would have expected more
Thomas at the front desk went over and above. When we made the reservation, we didn't know that we had to climb four flights of stairs with luggage for four days. After the first trip up, Thomas offered to take our remaining luggage up. Later that evening, my wife and I stood out by fourth lake with Stacey, the manager, and Thomas. We shared an educational conversation about the history of the hotel, and the the local neighborhood. We left feeling warm with our experience. This isn't the Hilton, it's the Adirondacks. We plan on going back. (On the first floor😁)
