The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay

Beautiful location, but not just for the rich, also for the unadventurous. Food options are ridiculously poor, especially if you’re looking for something quick or casual. Went from let’s eat at their casual (but still crazy expensive) option for dinner, to having to get the car from valet to find something elsewhere. Was told that main dining area was busy because of only one waiter, so recommended to go to bar area. Bar area full with dudes taking whole tables with their laptops, so tried to sit at adjacent area with tables. Asked server if we could wait at adjacent area and be told when something opened. Told, no, bar is first come, first serve, that we could eat at close by area but would have to go to bar to order and pick up food. No way I’m paying $38 for a burger that I have to get

Overall, I really enjoyed our stay. The property is absolutely gorgeous—the oceanfront location, the dramatic cliffs, and the coastal walking path are truly stunning. Our room was lovely as well, and the setting right on the water is spectacular.||The service was exceptional throughout our stay. Every staff member we interacted with was warm, attentive, and proactive. Any time I requested something—extra towels, ice, etc.—it arrived quickly, which I really appreciated. My husband also had a great experience golfing and felt the course was beautifully maintained.||As for the beds, they were extremely soft. I didn’t mind them, but my husband prefers a much firmer mattress and found it uncomfortable, so that may depend on personal preference.||I do have two significant complaints:| 1. Dog Fee

The hotel was beautiful -- fantastic location and beautifully appointed. The staff were incredibly helpful, welcoming, and kind. The rooms were comfortable (great beds!), very clean, and included everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The coffee in the lobby was surprisingly good. Drinks with the sunset backdrop were fantastic. And the bike riding near the hotel is unbelievable (although almost all uphill!!). Only thing I'd improve? The pancakes...definitely get out of the hotel for breakfast. The local diner pancakes are much more delicious and 1/4 the price.

Prior to booking, I called to discuss rooms & their respective views. I was recommended a room with partial golf course view, however after we checked in the view was of overgrown shrubs. We called the front desk to switch to a better view, and they were able to accommodate for the following day. Aside from the initial rooming issue, the service & experience was great. Absolutely stunning views of the ocean and golf courses with bagpipes that play at sunset. Their restaurant, Novio, is an incredible experience as well; a must try!

It was a delight to stay at The Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay. From before I even arrived I delighted in speaking with Miriam at guests relations. This is my favorite Ritz Carlton, though I appreciate San Francisco and Ft Lauderdale too. Chicago could provide a warmer experience. It is ultimately the employees that make or break a Ritz for me. Every staff member I met at this hotel was gracious kind and a delight. From our arrival Tristen was the perfect valet so kind, informative and helpful. Justin was so helpful at the front desk upon arrival, he made sure I was informed. Valerie on the phone was helpful and kind. Briana and Rosina were charming and helpful at The Club. They invited us to feel welcome, cared for, and like they were happy to be there with us. My only wish was that I had
