The Charles Hotel

Wonderful hotel that is an historic building. We have stayed in the Poppy Room and we recently stayed in the Newark room. Both are cozy premium rooms. The Newark room is not in complete darkness at night. There is some light that comes through the curtains which helps if you need to find your way in the dark. The furniture is vintage, which suits the hotel's historic charm. The Charles is different from most modern hotels, but that is what makes it so unique. It is most ideal for couples. The staff were friendly and helpful. The location is amazing, it has great views, is on the main street and is within walking distance from many shops and pubs. We will definitely stay again !! Charming bed and breakfast that has enough rooms to provide some privacy and anonymity but small enough that it still feels like a traditional bed and breakfast. Room 105 was lovely, comfortable and very clean. Don’t skip the breakfast- it is exceptionally delicious. The property is located on one end of the main street so it is out of the fray but provides easy access to all the activities and retail. Definitely would stay here again.

If you're considering hosting your wedding with Niagara’s Finest Hotels, I strongly urge you to reconsider. I recently attended a family member’s wedding here, and the experience was incredibly disappointing — especially given the premium price point. The setup was a disorganized mess. Linens weren’t placed on the tables until just 30 minutes before the ceremony, leaving guests scrambling to help staff finish setting up. Wine service was virtually nonexistent — most of us ended up toasting with water. To make matters worse, the bar didn’t open until 10:30pm, and whiskey ran out by 11pm. The lack of professionalism and accountability was shocking. For such a special and costly occasion, the service fell far below expectations. If you are thinking of booking a wedding with Niagara's finest hotels - this is your warning! We had a really disappointing experience and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone planning a wedding. Throughout our wedding, there were several issues that Niagara's finest refused to take responsibility for. During setup, our coordinator Kyle agreed to be onsite by 2pm but was nowhere to be found. I was told that they were short-staffed because two people called in sick and as a result, Kyle had to leave to pick up linens. As a result, tables did not have linens until just 30 min before the wedding and our friends had to rush to get the set up done. I attended my brother's wedding at this venue, and I was really disappointed by how poorly things were handled. The bar service was one of the biggest issues. Me and my family were frustrated when bartenders refused to serve drinks, saying they didn’t have enough servers until dessert had been served. The bar didn’t open until late in the day, and even then there weren’t enough cups to serve everyone at once. I didn’t get my first drink until 11am. Later in the evening, the bar closed at 12am, and because there wasn’t enough alcohol provided, many guests ended up leaving early to get drinks elsewhere.
