The Booker - Lewis

Put aside any hesitation to enjoy a romantic dinner at the Booker Lewis House and go for the "Surprise Me, Chef!" Caleb Carter prepared this for my husband tonight and it was FANTASTIC. I was a little jealous of his massive plate of steak, veggies and potatoes with quite the surprise sauce on top. We even joked that we order the Surprise Me next time, but specify the same meal. We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the privacy the waiting staff afforded us. Some people prefer to be hovered over, we do not. They were there when we needed them which is perfect. If the weather is nice, sit outside under the ceiling fans in the fresh air. We WILL be back. Thanks for a great anniversary experience!

We took my mother in law here for her 87th birthday. There were 4 of us. My mother in law and I ordered the top sirloin, my wife ordered the vegetarian lasagna and my son ordered the chicken parmesan sandwich. Everyone loved the food. I thought my steak was one of the best steaks I have had in a long, long time, and by far, the best in the area. My son, who is very picky, loved his sandwich, which really surprised us. Everyone agreed that the food was excellent. The chef came by before we ate and spoke with us for a bit, and then checked on how the food was after we had finished. This was a nice, personal touch. Our experience was excellent, and we will definitely go back.

I can't make this stuff up. I have been here 3 times. The first time it was decent at best. Service was EXTREMELY slow and food was mediocre. I had the surprise me chef and it was a chipotle chicken pasta thing. Kind of tasted like a meal a 12 year old could make. The next two times were awful. They have recently hired on a server who is absolutely AWFUL. This same server ruined our experience at Mexico Lindo twice, and we vowed never to go back there. Now we find he has been hired on here. He has terrible customer service skills, is very awkward, has messed up my order multiple times, and takes his sweet little time while he flirts with other tables. We stayed here July 4 th weekend to attend freedomfest and celebrate our anniversary. The staff was great and helped with special surprise arrangements for my lady. ||The restaurant was fantastic. The strip steak is on par with the best I've ever had and really fine breakfast. ||I sent friends over with some coupons the restaurant gave us for dinner the day we left.

My wife and I have stayed here several times and enjoyed it. It's a great one night romantic stay, but I wouldn't stay more than that because there is not much else to do in Leesville/Ft. Polk area. It has a very nice restaurant, a nice bar, and nice rooms, so you never have to leave the property. We've stayed in BnB's in Texas, La, and Miss and this place compares as long as it's a short stay. So go and enjoy yourselves.
