Sunset Motel

I'm updating details about my stay at the sunset motel in portage, wisconsin. I stayed there for 3 weeks during the end of november and the first week of december. I would definitely recommend this place. First, the managers Ken and Dena are as friendly as you can get. Ken is always letting you know that if you need anything let them know. They were very gracious and took the time to have a conversation whenever you are in the office or walking around the parking lot. Dawn cleans the rooms. She does a great job. She is also very friendly. I worked at nights and asked them to clean my room after 12pm, so I could sleep. Dawn always cleaned the other rooms first and respected what I asked. Very very old motel with few to no renovations. There was old odor in the rooms indicating an aging facility. The price was $40.00 a night, I ended up not staying because of the smell. It wasn't a stinky smell, it was just an old smell. They did have free wifi, a nice tv, microwave, and larger fridge. Staff was kind, accommodating and friendly. It was a grandma/grandpa type place if that is what your looking for.

This place is such a rare gem. The owners are the kindest people you will ever meet and have the cutest dogs. The rooms and overall place are so cute, incredibly clean, and have everything you need. They even accommodated us arriving really late. The owner even helped us with the thermostat. It’s such a charming place and definitely worth the stay!! They actually care about their guests unlike the corporate places. We will definitely be back when passing through Wisconsin in the future.

We ended up going here because there was no other place within 100 miles. It was ok. Manager/owner was very nice. Room was old, extremely tacky & very run down. There weren't any plugs near the bed so we had to ask for an extension cord, which they provided. The bathroom tiles were literally falling off the wall. The carpet was funky and our door wouldn't lock, so we piled our suitcases on top of chairs & barricaded ourselves in for the night. In spite of all these issues, the room was relatively clean, bug free & the beds were comfortable. It was one of the best nights sleep we've ever gotten in a motel. The stars are for the low rate, friendly welcome we got & for the comfy bed.

The big room is confusingly laid out, the second bathroom has no sink annd the side room with the single bed has no outlets anywhere so if you all planned on charging your phones, plan again. that said, it's a comfortable enough bed, relatively clean and the staff is pretty cool.
