Stout's Island Lodge

Photographing weddings at Stout’s Island Lodge is such a dream. It has a nostalgic Northwoods charm you just can’t replicate anywhere else. It truly feels like a unique getaway destination rather than just a wedding venue. There’s this laid-back, joyful energy there that makes the entire wedding celebration feel different than any other wedding. It’s more intentional, more connected, more memorable. If you’re looking for something that breaks away from the traditional ballroom vibe and gives your guests an experience they’ll talk about for years, this is it!!

This is a beautiful historic property that DESPERATELY needs an overhaul. We had a great time but you need to adjust your expectations. A lot of the information on the website was incorrect (dining hours, beverage options, amenities, etc). Our room had a myriad of issues. Non functioning AC, dirty floor, wonky mini fridge, and no window treatment on the front door (we had to use a blanket over the door to provide privacy). Bring snacks!!! The continental breakfast was disgusting. Flys everywhere, food seemed like it had been repeatedly set out day after day. Lunch was not as advertised - only a cold sandwich menu was available. After these mishaps we chose the eat off the island (loved Lehmans Super Club). Service staff needs more training. Most of the staff we interacted with were cold

My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary with a three night’s stay at Stout Island. The week prior to arrival we noted a few negative reviews as well as a cool/rainy weather forecast. Though we briefly contemplated cancelling, we decided to go for the adventure, whatever it would be. I can happily say we made an excellent choice. The Duffy boat transport, grounds, lodge, and entire island were all wonderful. We enjoyed a quiet, mid-week stay with less guests than I imagine summer brings. We explored the grounds, swam in the lake every morning, went hiking off island during the day, and enjoyed delicious dinners with great wines back on the island every night. Very different getaway option from the same old hotels that we frequent. This resort has a lot of history built in the 1920’s. The staff is friendly and inviting and the work very hard. You can only get to the island by boat so be mindful of how much luggage you bring and is you have difficulty getting in and out of boats. The food is good but certainly could use some improvement. Put this resort on your bucket list.

THE FERRY NEVER CAME! My diabetic mother in law was stranded on the main land with her medication on island. We called and called but no one ever showed up or answered the office phone. Eventually we had to yell for a neighboring pontoon driver to take us out to the island in the middle of the night. The young staff is trying their best but this place is understaffed and seemingly unsupported by the management. When we called to explain the situation they asserted that it was our fault? We tried to enjoy our meals but they'd take hours after ordering and included plastic shards. Definitely not having our wedding here.
