Southwinds Motel

The location is perfect, right near Duval street and all the tourist traps! For the price, this hotel needs to be updated and provide a better breakfast. We dealt with sugar ants during our stay and the room was questionable. This would be a great place to stay if the entire site, rooms and all, where updated. If you are looking for a place to rest your feet and is close to bars, this is it.

Overall, I had a good stay and cannot complain considering the reasonable (for Key West) cost. The front desk staff were always friendly, attentive and helpful. While breakfast is simple (hot coffee, yogurt, cereals, prepackaged muffins and pastries), it was nice to have it each day. I enjoyed sitting outside eating breakfast, sometimes with the roosters stopping by to join me.||If you have "Waldorf Astoria" expectations of the Southwinds Motel, you will not like it. It is very much a motel. It is not upscale and perhaps the rooms need to be updated. If I'd wanted upscale, I would have paid the hundreds of additional dollars to stay elsewhere. It's located a block away from the quiet end of Duval Street and Southernmost Point, there's a bar attached to the motel, a nice Cuban cafe/grocery

While this hotel boasts an ideal downtown location, the experience was unfortunately marred by poor management and hygiene. Service & Billing: The reception staff was inflexible and purely administrative. Following checkout, they failed to release my $150 deposit despite no charges being incurred. It took a month to resolve, and during that time, staff were unhelpful—blaming my bank and even hanging up on me during follow-up calls. Room Condition: The property is quite dilapidated. Cleanliness was a major issue; I found hair in the shower and a previous guest’s toothbrush left on the sink. Dining Tip: I recommend skipping the "free" breakfast. Instead, walk a few hundred meters to the local French bakery. It’s a paid option, but the quality is infinitely better. Answer to the Manager:

Positive: very centralized location. i love the way it is set like a villa. Negative: at the time we went they only clean rooms every 3 days. towels and toilet paper had to be requested in persona t front desk. hallway not cleaned the whole time we were there - 3 days. you have to throw your own garbage out.

I requested a quiet room twice prior to arrival and again at check-in however, I was initially placed just steps away from loud live music that continued until midnight throughout the weekend. After requesting a quieter room, I was moved to the back of the hotel, where it was peaceful and I slept well. Unfortunately, that room was gloomy, dark, and felt dated, as if it hadn’t been updated since the 1960s.||The main benefit of staying here is that it is more affordable than nearby resorts, hotels, and B&Bs. The location is convenient, one block from the beach and one block from the quieter end of Duval Street. Although I did not use the beach chairs, towels, or the two pools, a daily amenity fee of $30 is still charged.||In the future, I will choose to stay at higher quality and cleaner hot
