Shady Oaks Country Inn

I found myself, unexpectedly, without lodging my first night in St. Helena. I booked a room at Shady Oaks, and it was lovely. The house is tucked amongst beautiful old trees off the road. Inside, it is charming, and lovingly decorated with antiques that have been acquired over the years by the owners, John and Lisa. A glass of wine was waiting for me. My room was quiet, the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was outstanding; fresh berries with creme fraiche; freshly baked croissant with butter and jams, and Eggs Benedict. Plenty of hot coffee, and a mimosa was offered. John is engaging, very friendly, and an excellent host. Shady Oaks is a wonderful choice for anyone visiting California Wine Country. Highly recommended!

We visited last weekend and had high hopes given the mostly great reviews. The property is conveniently located in St. Helena to lots of wineries and restaurants. It's a beautiful old home that needs maintenance and TLC. We stayed in the Rose room which was a good size and welcoming at first blush with a bottle of sherry and two glasses. Lovely views from the windows of the vines on property. The house smelled old and musty when we opened the front door. We were the only ones there at the time and appreciated being able to let ourselves in. We're really not that hard to please but were disappointed to find: the cute fireplace in our room that prompted our selection did not work. This was our first time at a B & B, and the bar has been set very high. John and Lisa are great hosts and their inn is beautiful. Social hour is a great time to get to know all the other guests. We met some great people, and had very delicious breakfasts. Home-made and served on the back patio; the perfect place. John and Lisa truly care about their guests, and help to make your stay above and beyond what you expect. The room was cozy and comfortable. It felt like home. Can't wait to return.

Business required my husband and me to be in St. Helena for the weekend. Wanting to avoid the business crowd, I researched B & B's and selected Shady Oaks. What a wonderful find! Located well off the main roads, the location is peaceful and serene and very easy to find. Our Winery Room, located in a small, adjacent building, was charming and atmospheric, with rock wall and lovely antiques. Breakfast, served outside on the wisteria-covered patio, was fabulous and filling. Best of all, hosts Lisa and John made us feel like we were visiting the home of long-time dear friends. Shady Oaks Country Inn will definitely be THE PLACE for us on return visits to Napa Valley.

A really fine little B&B tucked away between Yountville and St Helena in the Napa Wine region. An outstanding breakfast prepared and served to gourmet standards. In the evening, wine and cheese are provided on a delightful outdoor patio where we met a really fun European couple and had pleasant conversation over wine and cheese. Very clean and inviting.
