Shady Lady Bed and Breakfast

Booked A last minute reservation. couldn't find the hotel, no obvious signage on the street drove up-and-down highway 95 north of Beatty for over an hour, trying to find them. no cell service so I couldn't call and get directions. Finally got back to Beatty had a little bit of Wi-Fi service, sent them A message on Travelocity that I was not going to attend the reservation and that I'm aware I would still be charged. I found lodging elsewhere south of Beatty. I received two phone calls later that evening from Jennifer. Harassing me about me about not coming to my reservation and that I would still be charged. I find it very unprofessional that 1. they don't have obvious signage on the road to indicate where their business is and 2. that she communicated with me the way that she did. I h

I need to start by saying we didn’t end up staying at the Shady Lady Bed and Breakfast because we cancelled our trip but I still thought my pre-stay experience is noteworthy for other travelers.

It started off fine after making a reservation online (through a third party booking site), the innkeeper, Nigel seemed pleasant and accommodating then, even agreeing to let me upgrade the room type from standard to private cabin and pay the difference on site on arrival.

But when I needed to cancel, the experience turned from pleasant to unreceptive to outright rude. I just needed an email confirming that I canceled this reservation for travel insurance purposes and called to ask him if he would send that email to me. He agreed and took my information. We love staying at this wonderful property. We were recently welcomed on a scorching hot day by peacocks and a friendly goat! Our dog loved the environment. If you're a birdwatcher, rent the cabin. Lots of nighthawk action over the pool at dusk. Lots of cool bats too. Other wildlife: ravens, coyotes, western cottontails, collared lizard, and numerous desert songbirds in the sage. ||Go outside at night at see the stunning display of the Milky Way. Some of the best stargazing in Death Valley. Area 51 is just over the mountain.||Delcious breakfast and such endearing hosts. Thanks to Jennifer and Angela for a memorable stay. I'll be back, next time in winter.

The location was a bit difficult to get to unless you got to actually go through Yosemite National park. Beware that you must make reservations in advance online for entering Yosemite. If you don’t like we didn’t we had to make a 2:45 minute detour to get to the hotel. The service at the hotel was good and the staff was very friendly. There is some history to discover here and the grounds have lots of peacocks on it.

Safety and Cleanliness Concerns, Did Not Stay. We arrived at The Shady Lady with plans to stay one night but ultimately did not stay due to safety and cleanliness concerns. At check-in, the proprietor appeared intoxicated and accidentally fell onto our backpack on the bed and into me, resulting in unwanted physical contact that the proprietor played off as a hug. While it may not have been intentional, it made us feel very uncomfortable and unsafe. We were not provided with keys or a door code, and when we requested them we were told it was unnecessary, which was a major safety concern. The room itself was not as advertised. It was significantly smaller than pictured and described with nowhere to place our luggage which was 1 bag each. The main light did not work and appeared to contai
