Scottsdale Marriott at McDowell Mountains

I recently stayed at the Scottsdale Marriott at McDowell Mountains, and unfortunately this was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I have ever had with the Marriott brand. The cleanliness and overall condition of the property were extremely poor. At check-in, I was not informed that I had been assigned an ADA room, and the room itself looked incredibly worn and outdated. There were multiple stains on the carpet and couch, and the room felt so unclean that I did not feel comfortable removing my shoes. I even felt the need to check the bedsheets myself to make sure they were clean enough to sleep in. The bathroom added to the discomfort: the ventilation fan made a loud, nonstop noise that could not be turned off, and the shower did not function properly. Overall, the room felt

Place is dated. Airport and proximity to highway makes this pretty loud. I have titanium status but was never upgraded and no one was at this hotel for my trip. There were 4 cars in my lot. The saving grace was the bartender who was pretty responsive. The property is a labyrinth of turns just to find you room and you need multiple keyings if you switch floors. My great view was tents. A joke. Again no one was here. The carpet in the halls was stained and as you can see by the furniture in the room, pretty dated. As long as you can get a deal, then its ok.

Positive: The food was very good and the staff was pretty nice. Negative: I paid extra for a balcony and breakfast. I got breakfast, but no balcony. I booked a room with a balcony because we work from the room and are pretty cooped up. It's just nice to have fresh air. Needless to say, I was very disappointed.

The staff that took care of our conference, including all meals were the best. The evening bartender- she loves her job! Thank you to all of those that made sure we made amazing meals and food service. The check-in process did not go well. They failed to explain the resort credit each day- I learned about it from a colleague. No hot water after about 2-3 minutes of being in the shower - it went ice cold. The staff argued with me there were not problems and ultimately gave me a room to move to or go shower at 2 floors away. I was also supposed to receive additional credit for this entire inconvenience which I did not. I was overcharged and overbilled in the end. We were provided a shuttle to the airport.
