Scarborough House Inn

Spent four days exploring wildlife areas near Manteo and LOVED the Scarborough House (do not confuse with the nearby Scarborough Inn). Room 3 was spotless and spacious with a very comfortable queen bed, a twin bed, a nice sized table for eating or working, a refrig with a separate freezer, and a small microwave - perfect for keeping my munchies at hand as I usually left before dawn to head to the Alligator River Wildlife Refuge for amazing bear photos. (There was no breakfast offered, but a nearby grocery had delicious selections to have on hand.) There is also no housekeeping for multi-night stays, but there is a good supply of towels on a shelf in the bathroom, so all was fine. Shampoo, soap and a hair dryer are provided.||The owners were readily available via phone or ringing a butt

Great location, and a solid price. It had everything we needed, and the room was quite comfortable. It's definitely a unique place, and a bit quirky, but I like quirky spots so that's a plus in my book. Everyone is very friendly, and the owners were very accommodating considering we got in a bit late. Would recommend.

I had a 5 night stay at the Scarborough just last week. I was by myself and found t to be a perfect fit for me! It was a very close walk to downtown waterfront Manteo and a safe walk back & forth even at night. No parking issues. Refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, Cable TV and WiFi (just don't forget to ask for the password). The owners are onsite but I virtually never saw them after check in and communicated mostly via notes left in the reception area though a phone # was left if an urgent call was needed. It was *very* clean and nicely decorated and the room was a nice size. I would have liked the mattress to be a bit firmer but it was ok and that may have just been the room I had anyway. We love Manteo for a quiet getaway, and this was the first time we have ever stayed at Scarborough House. We will definitely be back. Quiet, clean, comfortable, and romantic -- there is nothing lacking here. The host is extremely amicable yet unobtrusive. It is like a little home away from home (without the obligations). I can't imagine finding fault with any aspect of this charming inn!

We made reservations for room five, 7/8/16, as the picture on their website looked nice. Once we arrived in October, the young lady requested payment, gave us the key to the room, and what a shock. The bed frame was different, miss-matched furniture, and shabby décor. We turned off the noisy wall air conditioner and opened windows. There were cobwebs and spiders that I cleaned. No continental breakfast. We had to purchase TP as no once was around. They left a note that they would be back at a certain time that evening, and the note was still there the next morning. Looking at all the trucks in the parking we realized it was long term for guys working. We would of been better off staying in the otter banks at a hotel than this place.
