This was one of the best hikes I've ever been on. It's very easy and perfect for kids and dogs. There are blue clues paw prints that help guide you to the canes when climbing up the sandy rocks. The caves look like little rooms and the sandstone is easy to carve your name into. Its sand so it's not graffiti that would ruin the beauty for others. It's actually amazing seeing all the names that were written in the stone. Of course we participated in that. Free parking, free to hike, dog friendly, absolutely recommend. We visited in February and the walk up was just wet study clay. Not sandy until you reach the caves.
It's a little over a mile round trip from the parking lot. Trail is easy... When you arrive at the point when you have to start climbing it's moderate if you're athletic or fit enough with good hiking shoes or boots. There are a few spots that get a little steep but not too bad. If you have good grip with your shoes it's easy but still be cautious. Oh also when you get to the point where you start climbing a little there's white dog paw prints painted on the ground to show where to step for easiest access. The climb up is only about 7-8min if you don't stop.
A scramble to get up but once you do, it's with it. Too bad people sick and cave into the sandstone. Wish there was more info about them but enjoyed them none the less. Going down was better than up but a little difficult. Park by Best Friends Animal sanctuary lot and walk in.
I have been to the sand caves near Moqui Cave and they were awesome. The short hike up from the road was fun and not too difficult… just a bit of a scramble up the sandstone, which added to the adventure. Once we reached the caves, the view and atmosphere were worth every step. The caves themselves are wide and smooth, carved right into the sandstone with soft natural lighting that makes for perfect photos. You can walk through them, sit and relax, or just take in the shapes and textures of the rock. The location feels unique and peaceful… especially if you catch it during a quiet time. It’s a quick stop, but definitely one I’d recommend to anyone passing through the Kanab area. It’s family-friendly, scenic, and doesn’t take too much time out of your day. If you’re headed to or from Zion
Super unique spot! The hike in wasn’t bad, but the scramble up the rocks is very sandy - so bring good grippy shoes! My husband wore our youngest in a carrier and was able to go up fine, and our 4 and 6 year old climbed carefully! There’s really just two spots that are moderate and the rest isn’t bad. The caves themselves are super cool! For sure worth stopping by. We parked by the animal sanctuary for our hike in. There were no bathrooms!
