Beautiful concept for a place to get out of LA, unplug and spend time in the desert. The luxury glamping setup made it easy to slow down - we ended up cooking by the fire for almost every meal, which became one of the highlights of the trip. We booked 2 nights in a queen room but decided to upgrade to the king with a mountain view and stay an extra 2 nights - the second room was double the size and definitely the move if you are traveling with another person. The front desk staff were incredibly kind and did their best to accommodate guests. Special shoutout to Cheryl and Brianna, who were both warm and helpful during our stay. This January 2026 visit wtih my husband was my second stay - I also stayed in September 2025 with girlfriends. I had a great stay both times. The rooms and facilities lived up to what I had read in a couple of travel articles. The minimalist design still offered maximum comfort and functionality. The grounds/view are beautiful and the common areas encourage guest to meet and mingle. For those wanting more privacy, the individual courtyards for each room offered that option in style and comfort. I found the staff welcoming and striving to be accomodating. Mary was particularly helpful the night of our last stay. While not up to full opeating efficiency yet, I did not experience any significanat delays or problems. Disappointing Experience at Rest Hotel, Joshua Tree We were really looking forward to a relaxing stay at Rest Hotel in Joshua Tree, but unfortunately, our experience was not pleasant. The front desk girl’s attitude was very disappointing. The receptionist was rude, didn’t communicate properly with guests, and kept making facial expressions as she was annoyed by us. It didn’t feel welcoming at all, which is the first impression you get when arriving at a hotel. The room itself was clean, which we appreciated. However, the Queen room had absolutely no view. Good bones, but there's lots of room for improvement. Feels like it opened maybe 6 months too early, and could benefit from someone coming in with higher-end hospitality experience. Location - Secluded location close to all the great spots in 29 Palms and Joshua Tree (Campbell Hill Bakery, Kitchen in the Desert, Más o Menos, Sun of the Desert etc). Great for stargazing, very peaceful. That is, except for the dog pound next door. If you stay, be sure to stay as close to east side of the property as you can. Staff - The staff are mostly lovely, all seem very local, and really want to help you have a great time.
