Jumbo Rocks Campground

Our site was nestled between rocks and helped protect us against wind gusts. It also offered us a little bit of privacy. Space was enough for 3 large tents but has a slight grade. Downside is there’s only room for 1 vehicle. Pit toilets only. No water or showers. We brought our own. Bring lots if you can! We were there for the total lunar eclipse producing a red hue on the moon. It was nicknamed “ The Worm blood moon”. March 3, between 3am to 5am. We really enjoyed this campground and plan to come back at some point.

We camp at Jumbo Rocks every year and it never gets old. The rock formations are just stunning like nature's playground. You do need to book in advance though, this place fills up quick.|Restrooms? Meh. Not the best, but we bring our own setup so it's not a dealbreaker. Just a heads-up: double-check how many vehicles your campsite allows. Last year we showed up with two cars but only had one parking spot such a rookie mistake!|Thankfully our neighbors were cool and let us use their extra.|There are tons of trails around here, with different levels depending on how much you feel like sweating.|No water on-site though, so come prepared. Especially if you're visiting in the summer please bring a pack, hydrate often, and avoid turning your hike into a heat stroke story.|Also, bees! They're not

Tell you what! When the winds pick up here it becomes magical. Almost like the energies are transfered through the rocks. The campsite was nice and open. They had jumbo rocks to climb and hike around. Lots of dumpsters to keep the land as natural as possible. The fires reflecting off the rocks was cool to see and the skies we're bright with Stars. It does get cold in January (35°F) so be prepared to bring a heated vest or something really warm. And the first night we heard howling of some sort. Wasn't too sure if it was coyotes, foxes, or even wolves. But that's the wild for ya! Nature at its finest.

This has to be one of the most phenomenal places on the planet. The beauty is beyond comprehension. The rocks have so much to explore, I used to say the desert was dead but this has proven me strongly wrong. It's full of life and it's full of amazing life. Lizard, snakes, birds, coyotes, mountain goats. These are all things you can see not saying they had I saw all of them. But this place is amazing if you want to camp here you should. The only thing is is that it's an extremely popular camping spot so there's going to be a lot of people besides that it's absolutely worth it

Very nice, scenic campground within Joshua Tree National Park. The sites are quite varied and it is honestly difficult to choose the “right” one if you haven’t previously seen them. There are hiking and cycling opportunities right from the campground and the drives to other hikes and attractions are not far. The surrounding mountains, etc. are very unique. The tenting sites looked to be great. The RV sites were a bit more limited. Some were too narrow to allow for the use of slideouts, many were quite short and others seemed to be backwards as they were on one way roads and required the steps to come out into traffic.
