The Kosmic Tortoise

So my boyfriend booked this for my birthday and we were both extremely excited. We live in southern Cali and it took us about 4 hours to arrive at the kosmic tortoise. Our check-in time was at 3p and he didn't receive any confirmation email or the code to get inside the door while we were on our way to Joshua tree. My boyfriend called the host a few times and sent them a few emails and didn't get a response until around 5:30ish pm. Because we were still about an hour out, it didn't affect us too much but just thought I'd mention it because if we were on site at 3pm we would have essentially been locked outside for hours. When my boyfriend finally heard back from the host, the host said she re-emailed the confirmation and also texted him the door code. He still never received the email but

The location and views are fantastic ,the owner is very nice and informative about the local history of 29 palms .the dome is comfortable with a great sunrise from the bed. However! The toilet is now a portaloo that doesn't flush with no light , the sink to wash your hands is dirty and no light outside to cook once the sun goes down .|10/10 for experience but needs a bit of tlc on the whole.|The star gazing on a clear night is not to be missed, if your lucky you can hear the cyotes in the distance.

We had a great stay at the Kosmic Tortoise in late October. For the rooms I probably would’ve rated a 4.5. But overall we really couldn’t complain. I’d suggest to the owners to add a small microwave to the room so you can heat up some leftovers from around the town’s many restaurants and put a mounted thermostat on the wall behind the bed for some flexibility on the mini split heater. If you stay at the Tortoise - pick dome #2! The hosts provided just about everything else you’d need and more - dishes, linens, towels, soaps and shampoos! Be advised that you shower outdoors but the water does heat up pretty quickly. The Tortoise is well off the beaten path which makes this a great escape. This was a lovely, must do experience when visiting Joshua tree. It’s incredibly beautiful and relaxing. The amenities were far beyond what we had expected. We had an incredible time. Stay here. You’ll love it.

I wanted to love this place, but I can’t… and I understand it’s glamping, but online it says the room is kept at 70 degrees, it was a hot summer day and the dome was 74, there was no notification that they kept the remote for the AC, so I had to send a text to get it to the advertised 70degrees. *The toilet is a porta potty, while it was clean, it’s still a port a potty in the desert, I wish I would have known this prior to booking. *On their booking page it says they have an air mattress for a third person, I emailed Reena about a 3rd person, when we arrived, there was no air mattress. When I mentioned it to Evan, he said it would be an extra cost of $30, so I declined, happy we brought our sleeping bag instead :) Learn from me and pick Dome 2… you will have more privacy from the other p
