Red Roof Inn & Suites Monterey

Based on reviews, I was worried about service but the staff was very accommodating. My husband and I were coming in after check in was over at 11pm, but the hotel called us to give us instructions on how to get our key card. There were no issues and super easy. The rooms and furniture are a bit outdated and have wear and tear, but the bed was comfortable. The only complaint is the walls are super thin, so we can hear everything. Thankfully even at full capacity, the place didn't have really loud and disrespectful guests.

Positive: Front desk staff is nice, check in is fast. Parking lot is bright with many spaces. Negative: Very small room and tiny bathroom. Difficult to get in and out of the bathroom due to the layout and bathroom door.

A very negative experience and not recommended. The hotel is located in a dark and deserted area, practically in the middle of nowhere, which feels unsafe, especially at night. The room seemed improvised, located above the reception, giving the impression that it used to be a storage area rather than a proper guest room. The hallways were in very poor condition, with extremely dirty carpets and a constant smell of marijuana, despite the hotel stating that smoking is not allowed. Regarding pets, no amenities were provided at all (no bed, no bowls), and we were assigned a room that could only be accessed via hollow stairs, which are completely unsuitable for dogs. Horrible service. Not recommended, better off staying elsewhere. Was overcharged, tried to show the Manager the receipt to prove that the parking was included, she became super rude, refused to look at the receipt, kept repeating ”those are the rules” even tho, it clearly stated that it was included on the booking. She then proceeded to tell me that i can either pay the extra money or cancel my room with NO refund lol. After calling booking.com and her head office, I sent them the proof and they decided that I was correct and the fee was in fact included and I was overcharged on-site and that I would be getting a refund. This is my "go to" hotel in Monterey. Its rates are very inexpendive and its rooms are always nicer (beds are comfortable, and there is always a desk, refrigerator and working TV) than Motel 6's. Also, like Motel 6, there's no pet fee. Finally, it is very clean - the overall property, not only the rooms.
