Red River Gorge Retreats

Stayed at Campers Car Campground. We were able to park our car and teardrop trailer with no problems. Plenty of space. Was mostly people in vans and small RVs. - Showers $2 5min (now quarters) - Communal Wash sinks - Washer/Dryer (2sets) $2ish per wash - Heated/Cooled basement area under Miguel's - Communal covered picnic area/Storage - Communal outdoor area lit at night - Rooster Alarm Clock from somewhere nearby The showers were an interesting experience. Felt like we were visiting grandma's house in the woods. One was cold, while the other you had to run thru the stream as it was spewing lava. I guess it got us out of the shower quick. Still felt good after a day out climbing and grateful for it. For $4 a night you really cant complain. Say Hi to patchouli, Pinto and Garbo for me.

We rented “The Big House lodge”. The initial impression was the house was very quirky and fun! Unfortunately, none of the interior doors closed or latched all the way. None of the bathroom doors would close due to the wood swelling, so we had to hang a hand written “occupied” sign outside every door so people wouldn’t walk in while you were using the bathroom! The doorknobs of the main entrance were broken and wouldn’t lock (or open in one case). There were also many bugs around the windows and crawling on the floor boards. I would think the owners of Miguel’s Pizza would afford some better upkeep on the house with the price tag. Just beware.

Stayed in the big house, it has plenty of bedrooms for everyone, the house is beautiful, and the area is secluded. However, none of the bathrooms had a door that closed and locked! One didn’t close, one didn’t lock or have a latch, one didn’t even have a door, and the last had windows in the bathroom looking out to the rest of the house. There were dead ladybugs all over the house. With the winter weather, the dirt road was also a bit treacherous up to the house. Enjoyed our stay, but had some problems after check out and unfortunately I don’t think our group will be staying here again.

We rented a large cabin, while the location is pretty nice, and the cabin is whimsical and interesting , it was quite dated and needs a ton of work to really make it worth the high cost. We had a lot of issues with the water quality coming out of the tap as well as pretty strong smell of sewage because of all the rain and they said that maybe the septic tank needs to be pumped. Overall there were a lot of things that could have been improved to make the stay more enjoyable, the kitchen could use a refresh of utensils, knives, silverware and pots and pans. There was a lot of trim missing here and there like in the bathrooms. Bathrooms did not all lock reliably and one didn't even have a door. Getting in and out of the building was pretty treacherous, the driveway needs a lot of work to make
