Absolutely unlike anywhere else you have or will ever stay. We came here for a short honeymoon, and since my husband loves to fish, I figured he would enjoy a place right on the river. Located in the old Hanthorn Cannery, which shuttered in 2001, these rooms sit atop a unique slice of Astoria history. The museum one floor below is a treasure, full of artifacts pulled from other floors of the building to tell a story about the history of the cannery, adjoined with a donations and thrift-based gift shop full of odd treasures. My favorite part was the Cannery Workers' Memorial hallway, where former cannery workers signed their names on the walls. We stayed in the First Mate's Suite and we could have spent all day in the room, watching enormous cargo ships go by on the Columbia River. The vie
I’d read about the “Coffee Girl” for breakfast in the old cannery building at the Fisherman’s Suites. We were wonderfully surprised by the collection of restaurants, shops and the old cannery museum here. We had a wonderful breakfast at Coffee Girl which also served brunch and lunch. There is a nice pub, a canvas shop and serveral other stores. Well worth the visit with a lovely view outside of the Columbia River.
Stopped by quickly hoping to find some sea lions hanging out. No sea lions that day, but a really cool place to stop in Astoria! Great cafe and shops while still in a working fishing pier. Felt authentic. We were pleasantly surprised and will be back next time.
A quirky free museum where the Bumblebee Co. processed fish on the east side of Astoria off Hwy 101. Drive across the wooden bridge and the old processing plant is straight ahead. There is a little coffee shop and small museum shop. Don't forget to walk around back to watch the delightful sea lions.
Toured the Tuna museum and walked pier. Some cool artifacts to see regarding the Columbia river and Pacific ocean fishing adventures. Entry is free. Only 4 stars due to the layout needs to he better organized. At the end of the pier is a great view of the Columbia river and ships awaiting to head up stream.
