I can't believe this place has not been shut down. It's just outside the park completely free. Zero amenities. Except perfectly level concrete pads to park your vehicle on. 120 of them total elevations about 3,000 ft so it's going to be a little cooler than if you stay in the park proper. One strategy is to just use the water and RV dump station in the park and the trash service there and then stay at this location. This is particularly useful when the campgrounds within the park are closed or filled up with reservations. I did notice quite a bit of dog poop on the ground. Didn't hear any generators all night which was nice
This area is much nicer than I expected. There were maybe 8 other campers when I was there mid January. It could probably hold 100 or more.
Free place to park your RV or camp! This area is super close to Death Valley. The stars and the sky at night are amazing. We only stayed one night on 9-2-2024. We arrived in the dark and had no idea what to expect or who might be there. It was still too hot to start a campfire in the fire pit that was next to our RV and we saw a scorpion, so we didn't start a fire. ;-) There are a lot of bugs here, I didn't see anyone mention this before. When we woke up in the morning it was already hot, but we rode our bikes up to the top of the hill near where we stayed and there's another pad site up there! It's pretty steep though, but amazing views from there, which I show in my photos below. We appreciated saving money for a night. However, we did run our generator while we slept because we didn'
I came here during President's Day weekend in 2026, and was surprised how clean and uncluttered this place is without any services or amenities. While it's not regularly maintained like operating campgrounds, it looks like people that come here try to pack-in and pack-out everything. I just think back at other campgrounds where some people can't even haul their trash from their campsite to a dumpster -- here people are just doing right by the environment without any prompting or rules. Hopefully it stays this way for a long time. As far as actually staying here. It's first come first serve. Just find a spot and camp out. You don't have to be at a concrete pad as several people were out in the dirt areas, but there are concrete pads for trailers. I don't have one, but other people left the
Free parking to stop in. Very useful to take a few last picture of Death Valley. We stopped and said good bye to DV ! A few picturesque final pics which show how grand this park is. Probably one of the largest in the USA.
