Good hotel, comfortable and clean. Not super spacious, if that is a priority for you. But the location is excellent with good access both Uptown and Downtown and a good neighborhood around it. The hotel staff are friendly and accommodating. The location is very easy to access from the subway and takes only 10-15 minutes from Penn Station and Midtown. Most of the touristy destinations are downtown, but I found that neighborhoods further Uptown were more interesting. In sum, this is a good low- to mid-budget hotel with good access to the city.

Very pretty hotel, and my room was small but comfortable. My one complaint about the room was that there was a step between the bedroom and the bathroom, which was easy to trip on in the middle of the night. I was also uncertain why I prepaid, but was then charged another $22 when I got to the hotel and would have appreciated more communication surrounding this. Still, you can't beat the convenience of the location and I appreciate that I was able to book on very short notice!

To start with the good, and there is a lot good about The Hotel Newton. The location is fabulous for getting many places easily and quickly. The subway stop is less than a half block from the hotel entrance. You can make it to downtown in only a few stops. Central Park is an easy walk. Quite a few restaurants in the area. The hotel was a nice historic building with updated decor in the rooms. The room was clean and bathroom was small but clean and bright. The staff were all friendly. We arrived about an hour before check in but they got us a room. It was just being cleaned when we got there so we had to wait a couple of minutes but I could tell the cleaning was thorough and the housekeeper was friendly. The price was very reasonable. ||So, why the reduction of a star?

We book months ahead. We were running in the New York Marathon in Nov 2022. We arrived at hotel and the staff told us they had our reservation, but ‘would not be able to accommodate us.’ They told us it was the third party app’s fault and we could not get our room at the price we booked for. The hotel gave no options accept to wait to 3pm and book for 2 1/2 times more than what we reserved the room for months prior. We stayed in a shared bathroom hotel just so we could pick up our running packets and run on marathon day. The hotel used the marathon to gouge prices and bump pre-booked people because they wanted more money. We were on a list of day-of people to reject. It was a horrible! My kids and I stayed here the week before Christmas. The hotel is perfectly located with regards to the subway, food, grocery stores and just about anything else you might need. The hotel itself is nice and clean. Our room was very clean upon arrival and throughout our stay. Microwave and mini-fridge in the room; coffee in the lobby was a little inconvenient, but not a deal breaker. Front desk staff was helpful. We will definitely stay here again on our next visit.
