Mountain View Suites

We were a little concerned after reading the online reviews but then were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. Entry into the building through the front door was easy. Parking in the back was convenient. The living room and kitchen are quaint and clean. The stairs to the upper floors are narrow but we were prepared for that because we read the information on the website carefully. Our suite was perfect. It's an old, historic building, so we anticipated a gable roof and tight spaces. The bed was comfortable, sheets were clean, and the bathroom and spa bath were spotless. My husband and I decided to go to Jim Thorpe for our anniversary. I should have read the reviews here before I booked it, but the booking.com reviews made it sound great. IT WAS NOT! When making reservations, they don't disclose all the extra charges. The listing clearly says $135 per night, but somehow it cost us well over $400 for two nights. The listing makes it look like it's in the actual center of town and is walkable. NOPE!! It's nowhere near the town and is in a sketchy neighborhood. The house next door is boarded up! You can see the mountains if you look straight up. The rest of the view is of trash and dilapidated yards. We were never sent a code and had to call them. There is no one working there! I wish I would have read the reviews for this place! It's definitely NOT a hotel! Our room was on the third floor and I never would have booked it if I had known that in advance. The Jacuzzi had broken knobs so we didn't even try to use it. I had to plunge the toilet twice after using it. The upper deck is not as pictured. It needs a serious paint job and some parts of the deck were squishy when you stepped on it. The outside steps were broken in spots and in need of a serious paint job. We paid over $200/night for our room and it was definitely not worth that kind of money. I sent a message to the owner and complained and got no response. We will NEVER go back there! Very disappointed and feel like we were scammed!

At first things seemed great at this property - easy check in as we arrived late in the evening, decent parking, etc. However after entering our dungeon, I mean room (suite 0) everything changed. Musty room with mildew scent, disgusting carpeting, paint chipping off the bathroom walls, etc. Extremely noisy in the basement suite - constantly heard stomping up and down the steps. The most alarming part was finding used, dried up contacts on the bathroom floor and bedside tables multiple evenings. Would give 1 star for service but we contacted property manager because the room did not have toilet paper, and the housekeeper brought some within minutes which was nice. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our experience at Mountain View Suites was unacceptable from the moment we arrived. There was an impending ice storm that had been forecast for days, yet no salt or ice melt had been put down on the large staircase leading up to the property. When we entered the property, it was immediately clear that it was not cared for. The space felt drab and gray, with no warmth or sense of hospitality. There is no one on site, which only added to the feeling of neglect. There were multiple bricks plugged into wall outlets and sticking out to power hallway lighting. While the property is a short distance to town, it is directly next to a home that is completely boarded up, which further contributed to an overall feeling of discomfort and lack of care.
