Monterey Surf Inn Downtown

GREAT place to stay. Secure, clean, inexpensive, convenient. Rooms are nice and large with comfy King beds & pillows & linens, nice showers, black-out drapes, large TV with tons of Direct TV channels, fridge, microwave, in-wall heat & AC unit, and a very good Vietnamese restaurant next door, Plenty of free parking right in front of rooms. Very close to all there is to do in Monterey, literally a 5 minute drive to Fisherman’s Wharf and Cannery Row. EXTREMELY affordable rates that are significantly lower than other Monterey hotels. Best of all is the SOLID Management by Tej and Mike: they were always professional and accomodating, approved my reservation change (I asked to postpone it 1 week due to serious rain storm) without penalty and even allowed me to change rooms with no hassle.

Positive: Everything was great I would definitely stay here again Negative: The beds were little to soft and no hair dryer when the website stated that there was one

Last minute reservation on a Sunday after 5 pm. Upon check in I went to room and no dresser or closet to hang clothes. Girlfriend checked bathrooms as she always does when we stay somewhere and found what appears to be blood in the toilet. We went and complained and was told there is no other room with a dresser or closet. I then requested a cancellation. Mind you I was only there for 15 total minutes from the time I made reservation, checked in and saw the room. I was told they could not cancel the two day reservation since I was already there and that’s there’s policy. I was then charged and had to argue with the hotel and booking.com to get a refund. After all the battle I am suppose to get at least one day refunded. It still has not come. PS. I have the photos of the poor room quality

3 stars is fair. You get what you pay for at this Motel. 1 - Bed was comfortable 2 - The white lights/ fluorescent lights in the rooms are horrible. Worst choice for relaxing. Change them to a warm LED and you will fix the ambiance 100% 3 - floors and surfaces are pretty dirty. Do yourself a favor a bring some wet wipes and wear slippers 4 - They “sell” water but only take cash. They have a soda machine with no water so definitely bring a bottle or 3. 5 - the coffee machine was out for the first morning of my stay. Bummer when it would be nice to have some coffee in the morning 6 - Bathroom was ok. Towels were nice. 7 - walls are extremely thin so good luck sleeping if someone is watching their TV or just chatting 8 - if you are contemplating spending $20 more for a better place on this st

We stayed here for a couple of nights, and it was the perfect choice! The location is incredibly convenient— minutes away from Downtown Monterey and a short, easy drive to the 17-Mile Drive, Carmel-by-the-Sea, and the Del Monte Shopping Center. The hotel was recentlt renovated. The rooms were spotless and very comfortable, exactly what we needed after a long flight. We had some last-minute changes to our travel plans, and the staff were incredibly courteous and accommodating, making everything stress-free. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a clean, friendly, and centrally located spot to explore Monterey and the surrounding area!
