Excellent campground for solo trips, groups or families. This campground has it all! Drinking fountains, water stations, camp cleaning stations, showers and super clean bathrooms. I was actually very impressed with how clean everything was. We stayed in sites 16+17 which were down by the Cold River with gorgeous views. I will say that the sites require packing up and down a pretty steep road with your gear. The campground provides cargo carts to help you with the process. They sell firewood at the front gates and were very easy to deal with. I went with a group of 8 for a weekend of kayaking on the Deerfield River which was just a few minute drive away. We will definitely be back!
Stayed in Cabin #2 and loved it. We stayed toasty warm. Cabin was clean and well maintained. No musty odors or obvious evidence of rodents. Bathrooms were a consistent 72 degrees (20's outside) with nice hot showers and only a short walk from the cabin. It was a great winter camping experience and a much needed opportunity to unplug( no cell service).
As a child this was my families summer vacation wonderland! As an adult I have been camping there several more times. Unfortunatly the last time I went there I was very dissapointed and pissed off. I blame the state of Massachusetts. I went there without a previous reservation but they had many vacancies. The very nice gentleman at the check in station explained that without having booked on line ahead of time I could not stay at all. This make zero sense! I was unable to book a site and he sent me too a much better state park in Vermont. I have known for years that VT state parks are far superior to those in my home state of Mass.
The ranger at the front refused to take our money, even though nearly all sites were empty. We could see this on the website, but the site did not allow us to book day-of. What a discriminatory and dysfunctional system. What happens if someone doesn’t have a computer of phone? Or your lodging falls through and you need a spot to set up camp for the night? Well Massachusetts State Parks say “sorry but there’s just nothing we can do.”
Price gouging and bending your neighbors over a barrel is rather disgusting, especially considering how small the NE is compared to western states. Non-residents pay over double just to camp. You are all non-residents in 49 other states.
