Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Walterboro

Staff is like to complain about. The front desk staff member working when we checked in on 11/28 (real 11/29 at 1:30 in the morning after traveling 12 hours all day). He wasn’t even wearing a name tag. But shaggy blonde hair. Never greeted me never said welcome never said let me help you. Just tried to prove me wrong the whole time about my booking being inspect and I needed to pay extra for a pet cleaning fee because the pet rooms were all taken. Which I understand but I called and booked over the phone with the microtel team and notated we had a pet. Continued to fight me saying that that was a different team and that it wasn’t the actual hotel and I should have dialed 3. I argued and was very upset as how am I supposed to know. I’m calling to book a reservation so I clicked just that. N

Nice hotel. Modern, clean, very friendly staff, dog friendly. Close to a gas station where I walked to get a beverage. Would have loved the place, but there is very little sound insulation in the ceiling or the walls. I'd been on the road 10 days with my dog. We were on our way home. Checked in early for a good nights sleep. People above us stomped around all evening literally waking us up. The neighbors came in around midnight, doors slamming. We heard voices from all directions. Nice place but the goal was sleep and we didn't get much. Kind of disappointing.

I do not recommend this place. While traveling home from a funeral, I mistakenly booked a room for a Tuesday when I needed it to be Monday. I called immediately to change it but because I booked with Hotels.com they would not change my reservation. I understand there are rules but this is hardly a situation that could not have been easily fixed. No change allowed. No refund. Microtel will never get another penny from me. I admit my fault in the booking but the lack of flexibility or even a bit of empathy is sad.

Gail in housekeeping was very helpful, friendly and kind!! Thanks Gail ! The woman behind the desk in the morning could use a lesson from Gail. I took my dog out in the morning and when I came back in, the breakfast area was right inside the door. I saw the yogurt and thought I would take one back to my room. NO, the woman at the desk reprimanded me and told me to put it back, breakfast doesnt start till 6:00, it was 5:40... I said I just want to take one back to my room, She told me breakfast starts at 6, you can only help yourself to coffee. Then after check out I tried to leave out the back door which I had been using, It was stuck and would not open. Several men at the breakfast nook tried to open it, it wouldnt budge. We stayed six nights on this trip to Walterboro here at the Microtel, we are frequently in the area because we deer hunt and visit friends. This Microtel is by far the best deal for your money in town. But it’s not just the value that brings us back time and again, number one it’s one of the cleanest hotels in town (yes, we’ve stayed at others), second, it’s location is convenient to restaurants and Walmart for any needed supplies and last, it has the friendliest staff who all go above and beyond to ensure each and every guest is well taken care of - there’s Alicia, Cristal, Ryan and even Mr. Patel. I’m missing a few but I know they’ll understand. These folks work long, hard schedules and trust me, they get far less praise and appreciation than they truly deserve. We have never had a bad v
