Customer Reviews
Love the campground. Gem in the State Parks. Site very specious and mostly private. Clean bathrooms and showers.
This review is specific to the Live Oak Campground portion of Edisto State Park. This is a nice campground. From the moment you enter the park you are in a tropical atmosphere. All of the roads are packed sand/dirt so it does get dusty. This part of the campground has fairly tight curvy roads, and there are several pot holes making navigating a little difficult especially for longer trailers. The camp sites are close to one another. They aren't small sites but they aren't overly large either but there are trees and foliage between every site to provide some privacy. There are two loops of sites but overall the total distance around both is only about 1/3 mile to give you an idea of the size. There are a few trails to walk that are all less than 2 miles and very flat, packed sand. Also, th
I shouldn’t be leaving a five star review because that simply means it’ll be even harder to get in next time. But this place deserves it. The hike in campgrounds are amazingly beautiful! First, the “hike” is 30 seconds. Once you arrive, you’re surrounded by beautiful palms on the salt marsh. I’ve heard horror stories about the bugs there, so I came with everything except napalm — but the second day I didn’t bother. There were basically no bugs (I stayed in June) and I’m the type of person who WILL be bitten by a mosquito in January in Siberia. The bathrooms and showers are out of this world. Amazingly clean and friggin’ air conditioned. The hosts are wonderful and assist you with everything from where peach butter may be sold to getting a forgotten watch I found in the bathroom to
This is where you go to first, when checking into the Edisto Island State Park. Every time we check in, there is always someone who is very nice to greet us and check our reservations and give us our passes. The store is well stocked with food items that you would need for camping and plenty of camping accessories, ice, needs, wares and wood. If you may have forgotten something, chances are this little shop may have it inside.
The Live Oak campground is about 0.7 miles from the beach, but you can drive down to the beach camp area and park there, and then it’s a very short walk to the beach. Live Oak has mature trees, and most sites are shady with good vegetation growth between sites. Interior road can get narrow and twisty, requiring caution if you have a larger rig. Some pull through sites are on corners, limiting your privacy. Electric and water are at sites, the dump is across the street. The beach loop has little privacy and most will have full sun all day. There are well marked hiking and biking trails, Educational Learning Center, fishing pier and boat launch. When in the area you should visit the Ace Basin nature reserve. It has a hiking loop of just about 3 miles.
