Little St. Simons Island

Little St. Simons Island is truly a hidden gem. It's only accessible by boat, which adds to the adventure, and once you arrive, it feels like you've stepped into a peaceful, untouched world. The Lodge is cozy and rustic, and with only a small number of guests allowed at a time, it never feels crowded. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, especially the naturalists who lead the tours. The nature here is absolutely incredible. We saw tons of wildlife—especially birds, like the painted bunting—and had a great time kayaking, hiking, and walking along the beaches. The seven miles of private, undeveloped shoreline are stunning and perfect for a quiet day collecting shells or just relaxing. We have been to LSSI three times. The last time we took our 9 year old son. I can't say enough good things about the island and staff. With natural beauty everywhere, bird watching, alligators, a private beach, hiking, kayaking, and many other naturalist-led activities, there is something for everyone. The food is excellent. I wasn't sure about eating family-style with strangers at first. Meeting fascinating and friendly people at the dinner table turned out to be a highlight of every trip. There are 7 miles of untouched, building-free, no one in sight beaches. That is an incredibly unique experience. I wouldn't take a child under 9 or 10 years. Transportation and activities are not great for young children. I can't recommend this island enough.

Truly loved Little SSI. This was a birthday trip for me in which my husband, brother and sister all joined in. Loving the outdoors this trip was amazing. The pictures do not truly show the beauty of this island. The naturalist led excursions were so enjoyable as they all were so knowledgeable. My only regret is that we did not stay longer.

I hope there will be untouched islands like this 100 years & beyond from now. It will require very smart planning & strict control. The overdeveloped coastal sections of Florida & southern California are hideous.

Very nice, but a little pricey. Pleasant & helpful staff who loved their jobs. Naturalists were very knowledgeable & never in a rush to leave guests. Beans were served too often & fish also.
