La Ensenada Hotel Laguna Beach, Sonder

Location is absolutely amazing. All said, for the price-- I'd stay here again for the location alone. Beach access, coffee shops, boutiques, galleries, restaurants, etc. are all within blocks, if not next door. The staff, when there, were pleasant. The facility and rooms are a bit tired. It was a nice sized room, bed was comfortable, sheets were clean, etc. Wall AC unit was loud and could use a filter change. The room itself is that of an older hotel that has received a few coats of paint over the years. The Marriott pictures are definitely portraying a much 'fresher' perspective of the hotel than reality of the room I was in. The rooftop patio was great to take in a conference call and watch the ocean... The pool is small. Also, I wouldn't expect "resort-style" presence/service with towe

This hotel is about the location. The beach area just in front is a local surf spot and private feeling which made for all day entertainment and a truly relaxing weekend. Walkable to multiple restaurants and coffee shops. Away from the noise of Forest (the Main Street) area. It was fun to explore a new side of Laguna I hadn't seen before. The hotel was clearly a previous beach hotel with lipstick put on the pig. Worth noting the whole hotel is self service but there is a front desk open during day for questions, etc. The bed was comfortable. The TV functioned well. The bathroom functioned fine. Where do I start… This was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. I stayed here for a week, and during that week the hotel decided to renovate the room above ours. It sounded like the builders were going to come through the ceiling, with their drilling and hammering. The hotel wouldn’t move us until the last night, but it was too late by then as we were checking out in the morning. The room felt cold (in an atmosphere sense). It was just plain white walls, and cheap noisy laminate flooring. The rooms look nothing like their nice photography. They do not clean the room during your stay, and when we requested a clean, we were told it is too late as we need to give at least 24 hours notice (which wasn’t made clear to us). You should avoid this place at all costs. This was the worst experience I’ve ever had with a hotel. I’ve stayed at a nicer motel 6. Whoever took the pictures of these rooms was incredible. The rooms are pretty awful. We used the online check in and got to our room only to find our code didn’t work. After 2 hours on hold (they don’t have front desk staff past 11pm), we were given the MASTER KEY TO THE HOTEL and told to enter our room. We opened the door only to find that someone was in our room sleeping, which is an insane safety risk. We were moved to a small room that had ants in the bed and rags on the ground next to the bed. Booked a stay for an anniversary vacation to relive and celebrate some memories of where my partner and I had met and vacationed before. We were getting ready for bed and noticed the sheets/comforter were dirty with dirt, stains, or some sort of dark smudges on them. We notified the staff through the Chat and even went to the front desk within operating staff hours and nobody was there to help us leading us to believe they left to go home early. Nothing ended up getting resolved and nobody reached out to follow up or address this. This was pretty disappointing during what was supposed to be a memorable and stay. We will not be returning unfortunately. (past stays have had rooms smell like cigarettes, notified the office to resolve this and all they offered was an attempt to spray an aeroso
