Another amazing Florida State park. The sites are close, but yet still feel private. There are full hookups and the area is well maintained. Easy access to beach areas, cute hiking trails, kayak launches, and great views. The people that complain about the "sewer smell" seriously are not from Florida and have no clue about staying in a swamp marsh area, lol. Yes, at least in November the noseeums are a pain, but dress appropriately, use spray if needed and wait until after dawn & dusk, and you'll be fine. This has been an awesome trip and we've enjoyed the town and the coastal camping experience.
Good campground full hookup, good Verizon and T mobile service. Different sizes of sports some very small, maybe sure to check dimensions. Walking trails, fire rings and kayak launch. Located inside of the State Park and close to shopping and restaurants. Park offers many different activities.
We stayed at the John Pennekamp State Park campground and really enjoyed the camping area overall. The sites had a decent amount of shade, and ours was roomy enough to extend the slide-out and still have a nice sitting area with chairs. The campground itself was clean, quiet, and well maintained, which made for a great stay. One note—some of the sites on the right-hand side when you come in had standing water, which made the mosquitoes very bad in that area. The park also has a visitor center with a small aquarium that was nice to visit, especially to learn more about the local marine life. They offer different rentals and boat tours as well, though most of the activities are geared toward children over the age of 10. The beach areas, however, were not the highlight. They’re quite small,
This park was BEAUTIFUL! The camping area is tucked away and peaceful, making it a great place to relax. The sites are very nice, just a bit on the smaller side. The bathhouse was super clean, though the stalls were a little narrow. The sunset was absolutely gorgeous, and we even spotted a manatee! The marina area was really nice and peaceful — the water was crystal clear, and we saw tons of little fish, including some parrotfish. Overall, an amazing place to stay with a lot of natural beauty.
Beautiful park with very clean restrooms and tons of activities like kayaking, diving, snorkeling, and more. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. The campground is decent—nothing amazing, but fine. Unfortunately, the playground was taped off and closed during our visit, and the beaches were full of sargassum, which made it almost impossible to get in the water. At night, the mosquitoes were unbearable
