Island View Lodge

We didn't have a stay over but had a party of 30 people. The place was busy with only 3 people working due to staffing issues. They busted their buttons! We didn't wait long for our food, everyone's came out together, the male server was completely on top of everything and made our surprise 50th birthday party one to remember!!! June 2025

We loved staying here! The owner and staff are over the top accommodating and friendly. It is an older style resort and cabins so that is part of the experience we loved. It would be nice to see more bed options for couples would be my only suggestion.

Well, our first choice was the Thunderbird and that was absolutely packed. So we decided to try the island view had heard lots of nice things about it. It has interesting history. It has cool little artefacts very nice waitress but the food is awful. I think I ate four bites of the mashed potatoes and meatloaf with the mushroom gravy. The rest I brought home for my dog very limited menu. I have a lot of food allergies. They were very attentive to that which was amazing and I thank them for that. They have beautiful flowers, nice deck. The bar was really noisy. We ate in the dining room, which was nice except for the desks that was behind us. I think if they change the menu and get a better cook, the place could be really nice again. I will give it two stars out of five. I will say the Bill

First with the positives: Staff are friendly, very close to Voyagers National Park Rainy Lake Visitor Center, and views from the restaurant are amazing. Now for the negatives (from the perspective of having kids): The entire hotel is not kid friendly. The stairs are steep and don’t have enough railings. It would be too easy for a kid to lose their footing even with supervision. The rooms have mouse traps out in the open, there are many sharp corners and nails not fully hammered into the wall, and wires that are easy to pull (see photo). There are no “amenities” such as towel rakes or bathroom fans. The bathrooms smell musty. Overall the hotel needs someone to gut and renovate it fully. It has great potential with some investment.

You know, places like these —hard to find a gem. Wouldn’t necessarily say this is one, cabin was actually pretty dirty. Windows were not clean, very dusty and dirty, cobwebs galore, carpenter ants scurrying about the floor, they must have been waiting for orders to update the place. Cramped kitchen for a 5 bedroom, literally 24”x 10” for counter space. Just not acceptable for a week stay of 10+ ppl….The cabin we stayed in was reportedly the same from 20 years ago from one in our group. The deck and stairs needed powerwashed back in 2022, still haven’t been done. Same for parts of the dock path, slippery when wetbecause of the algae growth. The layout for parking truck trailer/boat was not great, if busy or full camp -expect hassles. Fortunately, good friends, fine weather and a fair succe
