I chose Howland House because I was hoping for a quiet country escape where I could sleep in, enjoy some peace and quiet, and wake up to a cozy breakfast — maybe fresh eggs, French toast, and real maple syrup. Unfortunately, that wasn’t my experience. The walls and ceilings are very thin. I could clearly hear my neighbors talking as if they were in the room with me. When the upstairs guests flushed the toilet, it sounded like rushing rapids through my room, and every footstep carried loudly through the ceiling. Even with earplugs, it was difficult to sleep. Breakfast was also disappointing. It consisted of coffee and either an undercooked, doughy croissant or a freezer‑burned mini blueberry muffin. There didn’t seem to be other nearby breakfast options within walking distance, which mad

Stay here!! Perfect blend of quaint charm and modern design! Warm and inviting bar, restaurant with aromatic wholesome cuisines that pair perfectly with the nearby roaring wood fireplace. Look no further! Rooms have both private and shared bathrooms. My room had a “shared” restroom and the layout was so well thought-out; it served as two separate restrooms that felt very private. Fantastic value and a quick drive to Bellearye Mountain.

We booked the Howland House for a weekend as we were attending a wedding in the area. The Inn is beautiful and the room was very nicely appointed with an ADA accessible bathroom and walk-in shower. We were welcomed by the owner, William who showed us to our room and explained the layout of the facility. After we settled into our room, we had a wonderful meal at Oliver's, a local eatery and bar located on the first floor of the inn. The bartenders are experts at their craft and the food was amazing!!! We loved the rosemary focaccia bread so much that we asked if we could have the recipe. The server told the chef, who came to our table, sat with us and went over his hand-written instructions for the bread. He said that there shouldn't be any secrets in the kitchen - what a great guy!

We spent three weekday nights here in July, and came away with the feeling like we were a bother to the innkeepers. Perhaps checking in early (with their approval) set us off on the wrong foot. It seemed like we were interrupting William's morning when we arrived. He didn't even offer to take my partner's suitcase up the stairs. He didn't tell us about the communal mini fridge, which is hidden next to the sofa in the corner of the common room. There is only one housekeeper for the 13 or so rooms. Your room is left untouched during your stay; extra towels are available if you ask for them, but your bed won't be made unless you make it. Coffee is indeed available every morning, but not until 8:30. Be aware that if you use too much milk (oat milk, in our case) the innkeeper may make a comment

Howland House made my trip special, and I'm glad I chose it for my recent trip to the area for a wedding. From the moment arrived, there was a wonderful, casual atmosphere. What really stood out, though, was the genuine warmth and hospitality. me and my friend had the pleasure of chatting with William each morning, and those conversations were such a highlight. We talked about everything from local recommendations (which were spot-on!) to his experiences in NYC. It felt less like a guesthouse and more like staying with a friendly local. Howland House offers that perfect blend of comfort and a personal touch that you just don't find everywhere. I'll definitely be back if I'm in the area again!
