Hostel on 3rd

I picked this place because it's cheap and I paid $25, but to me it's not even worth $25. This place is like a haunted place. From the hallway to the rooms, it smells like mold. Really, the smell is very bad, if you stay too long you're gonna have health issues. This is an old structure and the stairs felt like it's about to collapse. Poor lighting everywhere, and no shampoo in the bathroom. I got unlucky and my bed was very wet, not sure if it was pee, or the staff hasn't dried the bed sheets before putting it on. The place is completely run down. It's located on a busy street, so it could get a bit loud. Other hostels would charge maybe $35 for a bunk bed, but to me it's really worth it. They're closed from 1pm ish to 4pm ish, so if you wanna wait for your flight in the lobby this is not

Bittersweet to leave this place after 9 weeks of friendhips made, the most accommodating and kind owner James and Nancy along with their staff Charles, Tim, Aerial, Andrew, Chris and Adam. I will miss y'all. This hostel has a magnet, down to earth, caring, most amicable which I have not found or experienced in any other hostel or hotel (trust me, I have been to so many). I will also miss Jame's delicious pastries, cakes and pancakes every morning with coffee without fail, the chill and quiet lobby and patio where I could focus on my work, excellent rates that are honest and forthcoming. Most of all, I will miss its location for everyone's safety, right in the middle of Gaslamp, you can't go better than that. Love you all 💕

Be careful not to be cheated, the service attitude is very poor, the store staff treats customers very impatiently

Classic you got what you paid for. I got a private room and everything is in the "barely acceptable" level. The worker in the morning is insanely rude (when I got there to leave my bags the day of the check-in I was greeted with "what do you want? I am busy here"). The one at night was a cool guy tho. Furniture is incredibly old (and likely had fleas/bedbugs), and let just say the crowd that stays there is not the most sophisticated one. On the bright side the location is perfect if you have business in downtown (some 7min walking to the conference center/green line), and it's much much cheaper than anything in the area, then you can save a lot of money staying here and eating the pancakes in the breakfast

I had a reservation for two nights, but I ended up surviving in my assigned all-female room (Kenya) for only about 20 minutes. The mattress felt like an old, mushy foam pad, and it had a musty/urine/body odor scent. The room had to be at least 85 degrees with the ceiling fan on, room fan on, and window open; it felt like there was no ventilation or air flow at all. It didn't help that the Gaslamp area was super humid and very noisy that Friday night. I felt like I needed a shower immediately after lying on the sheet-and-blanket-coveted mattress for those 20 minutes. The staff members were very kind, but I couldn't stay knowing that it would be much cleaner and cooler sleeping in my car for the night instead.
