We stayed one night for a weekend getaway in January. What a thrill and a delight to be greeted by Melaniejane herself! (I've been a big fan of her work with Purgatory Hill for years) We stayed in the Elvis room, which is spacious and has great views of the neon sign and out to the Steel Bridge. The hotel is very clean, in very good shape, and during our stay was extremely quiet, since not many rooms were booked. The king bed was very comfortable. I loved the binder with the list of songs that were composed in our very room! There were so many intensely cool artifacts that, even on the second day, as we were packing up to check out, I was still noticing new things. I won't post a photo because I don't want to ruin the fun of discovering them for yourself! We also spent some time in th
We went in a spur-of-the-moment mother/daughter getaway to Door County. We absolutely loved our stay at this clean, retro motel! The staff was friendly, attentive to the smallest details, and our stay was perfect! I especially commend them for even thinking to have 2 wastebaskets in the room…one for garbage and one for recycling! It’s located in a perfect location for fun and beauty! We will be back!!
Positive: Very clean, and not just superficially. Thoughtfully curated musical artifacts and themes. Lovely for those who want a nearly museum-like experience. Lots of architectural authenticity in the modern renovation. Very walkable to desirable places. Negative: Lots of noise transfers from upstairs to first floor rooms. Also, if you're going to have a fridge in the room, have it plugged in and ready to use.
Pros: 1. Melanie, I think she is the owner or one of them. When she is at the front desk she is very friendly and helpful. 2. Location: Right off the “old” downtown area, close to many shops, restaurants etc. 3. Décor (atmosphere) inside and outside: I like the genuine retro style. 4. Rooms: Clean. 5. Price: Fair for what it is. 6. Vibe: I am a lot of things, two which fit well in this environment, I am an artist/photographer and an amateur (wannabe) blues musician. This place scratches that itch. Cons: 1. Décor: While the room I stayed in (on two separate times) was really old school cool, the hallway outside my room had only one tacky, faded, low-end poster at the end of the otherwise long empty wall. 2. No breakfast or snacks at all: This is the only place out of many that I stayed in
Absolutely wonderful place! So cute, cheerful and funky. Extremely comfortable bed and the hosts were lovely. Plus it's just down the road from a great little coffee place. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.
