Hilton Garden Inn San Diego Downtown/Bayside

I checked in on a Friday for a girls’ getaway after recently being laid off from my job, and I ended up stopping into the restaurant bar where I was the only guest at the time. Ian was incredibly kind and welcoming from the start. He took his time explaining the differences between the Chardonnay options on the happy hour menu and suggested the shrimp, which was a great recommendation. What really set Ian apart, though, was his genuine kindness. At one point I was on the phone with my brother and got emotional. Ian was so thoughtful and respectful he gave me space, but also offered a sweet smile that showed he cared. That small moment of compassion meant more than he probably knows. Visited this beautiful hotel in early December 2025. I was worried because I wanted to be close to the beach and have a view. I was able to get a nice view of the bay and enjoyed a relaxing stay. The room was clean, and it smelled super clean. The lobby is very nice and the layout seems ideal for people coming into town for a quick evening. The hotel is located near some good food options, and everything is located at a good walking distance. Not as close to the Gaslamp district if that’s something you are in town to try and enjoy but nonetheless the hotel was good. Staff is always on point at most Hilton properties and this location did not disappoint, all staff was eager to assist and friendly. Only downside is parking situation, no self parking so you have to valet.

Couldn’t get an upgrade tho I booked weeks in advance. Very bland/repeat breakfast daily. Mandatory $60 valet. After the first night I parked on the street a block north for free. The bar tenders in their restaurant were friendly. Hotel staff so/so. Didn’t seem like they wanted to be there. Pool views were nice but cold as it’s enclosed, but technically outdoors. Mostly clean and I at least got help quickly when I needed it. For the price, I’d spend a few extra hundred to stay somewhere nicer or rent a property.

Had a pleasant stay at Hilton Garden Inn San Diego! The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well-equipped, with friendly staff who made check-in smooth. Spent a long weekend here in December, and overall it was a pleasant experience. It’s in a great location, yet still very quiet when it comes to external and internal noise. No slamming doors and a quiet HVAC system. The room was spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable. The water pressure was good and ample hot water. The shower door actually had a seal that kept the water in the shower. What a concept! The only complaints I have is the maze of a hallway (we had second floor room). Had to take a left, a left, and another left coming out of the elevator. And they charged me $180 for parking when we didn’t have a vehicle. Not sure how they got to that conclusion, but be sure to review your receipts.
