Grandpa Joe's Place

My husband and I stayed at this motel for 3 nights and had a delightful time. This is an older building but very clean and conscientiously run with daily exchange of used towels and trash taken away. The price is fair and the service was the strong point for me. The location is superb for those exploring the Badlands in South Dakota and the proprietors have a wealth of knowledge about the area , and lots of entertaining stories! It is all about the personal touch that is so often missing in the larger chain facilities. I truly enjoyed our stay and would return to Grandpa Joe’s place in a heartbeat if we ever return to this area. My husband is easily chilled given his advanced age and medical conditions. I truly felt like I was walking into my grandpa's home! i mean, was it old, sure thing. was it willed with love and family, YUP!!! I called and was told, because I was driving and unable to give a CC#, we'll hang onto it for you till 11pm. just call if you'll be late. I called being a little later and they were there, ready and waiting. |i have seen the comments about the room being "old" and yes, it is, just like many grandparents homes. it's CLEAN, comfortable and sure, a little "grandpa fixed" but that added to the charm for me. The tributes to our military, patriotism, faith and family were enough to fill my heart. the towels and bed were SO COMFORTABLE!! “Small town gem” is how I would describe this place. My husband and I had a restful night on our stay here heading back east. Everyone is friendly and helpful. We even got to meet the owners. Sweet couple with a heart for the town and it’s legacy. We would stay here again. Rooms were clean and comfortable. It was a peaceful and chill place. They even had the heater on and running for us before we arrived so the room wasn’t cold when we walked in.

Grandpa Joe's Places is great. The staff is amazing. They were so friendly and willing to help us. We had car trouble and spent a couple of nights here. They had to make some changes for us to have a room available for 2 nights. They knew we did not have a car so they offered to go and get us food or anything else we needed. I cannot say enough good stuff about Grandpa Joe's Place.

This has been one of our "good" road trip surprises. The ratings were correct in that the rooms were clean and bug free. The beds and pillows were comfortable, the shower was good but some touch up paint would help. They had the most luxurious large towels we have ever experienced. Do not be set off re the somewhat ill maintained sign or small old school reception area. Oh yes, you probably will encounter Grandpa Joe...to complete this experience. This is an old motel that had been extensively renovated. We look for these charming places where you back up right next to your room.
