If you are looking for an ultra modern hotel with all the bells and whistles this is not your place. But if you are looking for a clean, friendly, unpretentious well located hotel in the gas lamp district then this would work for you. ||Comfortable beds, very basic little kitchenette with microwave, mini fridge, coffee maker (cutlery, bowls, mugs, glasses, plates). Toiletries (including hair conditioner). Lots of closet space and two bureaus for clothing. ||Our first morning there we attended an information session on what to see and do in San Diego on the top floor roof terrace with the delightful Mary (Merry?) who told us all about the city/sights. The rooftop terrace was a favourite haunt of ours for watching the sunset and sunrise, there’s always free coffee on tap there (includin

This is the (almost) perfect hotel for me. It has charm, the staff I interacted with was very service minded, it is very clean and comfortable. As you can see on the pictures, it ads further to the charm when the hotel room has a name, a mail drop slot and does not have the appearance of an anonymous mega-chain hotel. Furthermore, the room had real glass drinking glasses and porcelain cups for the coffee maker. Not only paper. The WiFi was very fast and free. The walls must be thick a I never heard any noice whatsoever from any other room. So what is missing? Well, I would liked a lounge, to relax with a glass of wine or a beer after a long working day. Now, there are plenty of those in the neighborhood but I still like to have a service like this in my home for a few nights.

Merry, at the front desk, was an amazing receptionist and help for the stay! The room was spacious, pretty, and cleaned beautifully (by Susana?). There were a few small things that showed the historic nature of the hotel but overall a comfortable, clean, and happy stay. The rooftop views are beautiful and the location was near ample public transit and a lively night life (if that’s your interest).

The Hotel is located in the heart of the Gaslamp District of San Diego. Walking distance to an abundance of restaurants, a theater, and groceries if needed and is a couple of blocks walk to the trolley and bus system. If you are a senior and get the Pronto pass you can ride all over San Diego for a mere $3 max per day. It is a quarter mile downhill trek to the bay front. The online pictures are a bit deceiving, note all the mirrors and cut the visuals in half or less. It is obvious from the front entrance that the Hotel could use updating. The lobby is small but was clean and decorated nicely for Christmas, the adjoining reception desk and area were a whole other story, very rough, disorganized and unappealing to be generous; the elevator system will take you back in history. Be sure
