Forty Winks Inn

While my family and I have lived in the St. Louis area for more than 30 years now, 9 years of my formative life was spent in Brookfield, Wisconsin, a stones-throw from The 40 Winks Inn. While the many restaurants, stores and businesses around it have come, gone, changed and disappeared, one thing remains the same: The hospitality and "it's still here" tradition of The 40 Winks Inn. I've been here twice in the last three months to conclude a family home being prepared for sale and then being sold and each time - I've been able to trust that The 40 Winks Inn would take care of my family. The most-recent visit was this last weekend as the colder temps arrived. We got a great room rate for what I love paying money for - arrival, sleeping, bathing and leaving. That's it. Forty Winks is on the outskirts of town if you don't want to be caught up in city center traffic. It is quite near the ballpark, zoo, and Miller Brewery though. It appears to be an older independent motel that is well taken care of. The rooms are larger than average, clean, and comfortable. I will note that the room only had soap provided. They have travel shampoo at the front desk with a price on it, but when we asked, we were given some for free. I'm not sure if we just got lucky and are supposed to charge or what. They also sell water for $1. It comes off as a little nickel and dime kind of feel, but it's not enough to not recommend it. It seemed to be one of the cheaper motels in Milwaukee and is plenty comfortable for a stay of a night or two.

We had a short over night here. It is basic and clean. No frills, no breakfast, no extras, but quiet, comfortable and a nice location.

Located on a main thoroughfare Forty Winks Inn is a clean, quiet and uniquely styled lodging located in the suburb of Wauwatosa on the outskirts of Milwaukee. It is listed as a 2 star hotel which is appropriate. The lodging and rooms have a somewhat dated feel, and there are no food services or sundries per se (you can get shamppoo/conditioner if you ask), but everything was exceptionaly clean, the room was large, the bed comfortable and though the bathroom was quite small, it served it's purpose. Room included a microwave, refrigerator and and 32inch TV with a decent number of channels. All rooms are in a single, window lined hallway facing the parking lot/street.
