Fort Magruder Hotel

In 1986, my wife and I stayed there after our wedding, before starting out to Florida. They put us in a big suite. It was very nice and much less than I thought it would be. I think that they cut us a break on the price. We went back pretty often for dinner on special occasions. I had a client who was a musician and we went to hear him there. My wife's little sister had her wedding reception there. It really slipped on experience some time in the 1990s. The atmosphere of the restaurant was becoming less fancy. I remember the last time we were there the restaurant was closed. So we gave up on it.

The location was perfect, the staff was friendly, the room was spacious.....the building was EMPTY and at first felt a little creepy but no issues at all. Large building, great breakfast, comfortable bed, wonderful to have microwave and refrigerator even if they weren't used. Still wondering why the building wasn't full???? I would absolutely return if business sent me to Williamsburg again. The price was the best!

It's undergoing renovations, which makes me not want to give a poor review. We had a comfortable stay. The beds were very comfortable and slept well. There was noise next door which the front desk took care of. The outdoor pool was closed. The inside pool and hot tub were nice. The breakfast was continental but fuller on weekends. I would stay there again.

Preface: service was awesome. The staff tried their best with limited resources to help where they could. Even switched my room and found me a better room than the one I originally had on a busy weekend. The bad: The rooms were absolutely disgusting. Smelled of smoke and mildew. I never once felt clean while staying there. Had to order my own toiletries as the provided soap was awful. The mattress did not look or feel clean. Carpets and signage were falling off, hallways were dark, and the list goes on. Did not see coffee or breakfast bar. Bugs in the common area. Old musty smells abound. When booking through my travel portal I saw it had average ratings at an affordable price. Not worth at all. A Cautionary Review of This Hotel Do not be misled by the hotel’s photos—this property falls far short of expectations. While there are a few positives, such as an aesthetically pleasing lobby and a basic yet satisfactory continental breakfast, the overall experience was highly disappointing. Upon entering our first room, we immediately encountered multiple issues: the television was inoperable, the refrigerator was dirty with dried residue on the shelves, and the hair dryer did not work. The carpet was also visibly stained, adding to the room’s unclean appearance. After notifying the front desk, they kindly offered to switch our room, which was appreciated—until further issues arose.
