Former Fort Casey Inn

We and our grandchildren had a wonderful two days in the Doctor's House. The house retains its historic charm and was very comfortable. The beds and pillows were good, and there were plenty of towels. The kitchen was minimally stocked so if you plan to do a lot of cooking bring your own seasonings and cookware. The location was great - walking distance from Fort Casey and the beach below the gun emplacements. We would definitely stay again!

Super nice, clean, old, quiet place/home. We booked the cottage #5 and it was very comfortable and spacious for two ladies. A home with history. The bedroom was awesome. The house was clean. We were very lucky to book it for first weekend of December and we were the only guests at the Fort. Thank you for opportunity to touch history.

Unit 5 |Pros: Roomy, quiet, homey, trail access. Rarely used our car. Nice staff. Heavenly setting. Good value. As promised, Internet was for all purposes non-existent. We brought a small TV to watch DVD's a few nights. Felt very homey. Fun to stay in a historical place. Easy hike to Fort Casey State Park, the ferry terminal, lighthouse, etc. We heard owls at night and saw bald eagles by day. The sunsets were gorgeous. Such a treasure.||Cons: Unfortunately, the kitchen dishes weren't clean. Almost every piece we pulled out / checked before use had "stuff" stuck to it. There was a dishwasher but we chose not to use it. It also looked a bit dirty. Handwashed a couple of plates, bowls and silverware for our use and washed/reused them during our stay. Found tons of dead flies stuck to tape on

We were about 20 people sharing four main house units and the Garrison Hall, and Eagles Nest. ||The grounds surrounding the accommodations are beautiful and command an open view of the bay and wetland to the south east. The accommodations are comfortable and were generally clean, only exception was using the pull out couch, it apparently hadn't been part to the cleaning. The kitchen is fully stocked and large in all the units. We did most of the cooking in Garrison Hall. But we did have a problem with the oven in Garrison Hall. The temperature regulation knob is broken so we were not able to use the oven as we had hoped. We luckily had the other units available and used those when needing to bake a dish. Poor value for the money, plus dangerous bath situation. |The old-timey atmosphere is fine, and as expected. However, for $300-plus per night, one should be able to expect a bathing experience that isn't downright dangerous--the only choice is a high, claw foot tub with NO grab bar! Given the fully modern updates in kitchen, heating system, etc., there's no excuse for not having safety updates in the bathroom. (The almost non-existent water pressure in the bath adds to the poor value for the price as well.) Requiring a $150 "cleaning fee" as part of the original booking--before we'd even arrived!--and then requiring we take out the garbage and "please help by stripping the beds" as we leave is pretty off-putting. Great location...bad deal.
