Econo Lodge At The University

Could use updating. Nice place the price. The bar near the pool smells horrendous some mornings. Pretty sure they were dumping grease in the dumpster. Not really the hotels fault if not affiliated. Staff is great. Super friendly. I'd stay there again, but would request a room in the front building.

Upon entering the back building of this hotel (the office is separate), we were hit with the strongest scent of I don’t even know what. The place is run down, damp, and uncomfortable. My gut already told me to leave, but then, we found a bug on the bed. We left and made a reservation in Myrtle Beach at a much nicer place for just a little bit more money. I was told to call back at the end of the week to try to get a partial refund but so far I have not had success.

CONS: Security issues. The "EconoLodge" rooms are tucked back on the property away from the lobby and main hotel (shared with a diffe vrent hotel name). This building seems to be in a poorly lit lot with shrubs and fences close to the entrances and the whole building feels like a "dark alley" type of vibe. I would have felt safer if I could move into the building quickly, BUT my card would never work to get access building entry or room with my key, several times. I had to keep getting my kids in and out of the car to attempt entry to find myself locked out then load them back up and DRIVE to go back to the lobby in another building on property FOUR times in 24hrs becuase my key/lock would not work. I have stayed at this hotel multiple times, taking my kid back to university. This time, pretty shocked at the change of the rooms. The smell 1st, I understand that due to climate humidity, there is naturally going to be issues, but this was heavy, and with underlying smell of urine. I always travel with cans of Lysol, so begin hitting the areas with disinfectant sprays. It was a connecting room, the door was unlatched, and when opening it to make sure the other room was locked, there was a drug needle on the floor. Went to front desk, showed Forrest the pic, he switched me to 1 floor up. The 2nd room has the fire alarm hanging out of the ceiling, the safety latch on the door is broken, and it definitely needs patches/paint. this place was perfect plain and simple the rooms were clean the Wi-Fi was fast and i stood in the shower for like half an hour and the hot water never slowed down i did have a little bit of an issue with the smart tv but the young guy at the desk came back and showed me how it worked turns out the tv was smarter than me all and all it was an amazing stay
