DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Chicago - Oak Brook

Turned out to be a really good value for us as a family. The pool was open during our entire stay and we used it everyday. The staff was friendly, and the breakfast was good. They also gave us cookies at check in. We will stay here again.

I traveled in from Michigan expecting a peaceful three-night stay with my four-year-old. Instead, I ended up leaving after one night. From the moment I arrived, it felt like my third-party reservation determined the quality of the room I received. The room smelled odd, the iron was already sitting out on the counter, there were no liners in the trash cans, and towels were limited. The tub was cracked, the shower handle was loose, and the room phone didn’t work, forcing me to use my personal phone just to reach the front desk. We were also placed on a floor where the walls were under visible construction, with plaster and debris on the ground. Several amenities advertised at booking were unavailable. Unfortunately the entire stay was negatively impacted by the unfriendly and hostile behaviour of the staff, right from the reception when you arrive, the shuttle van driver who is probably the most rude person you will come across, to the breakfast buffet restaurant staff who are no where to be seen and need to be asked for even the most basic things. Hospitality and politeness is non existent. Everyone behaves as if they are doing you a favour by doing their jobs, and can't be bothered to make any extra effort for any request. The hotel itself is just alright, rooms are old and dated with paint peeling off in the toilets, and the elevators shuddering dangerously.

Do not come with family. The whole time, there was morning constructions in the hallways. The facility smelled like marijuana. People smoking marijuana right outside the doors. They had other parties blasting their own personal speakers in the lobby at 3am. Other guest were loud and did not care about others staying here. The front desk were so nice and helpful when I needed assistance. Unfortunately staff members could not keep other guest members to function more appropriately which is understandable. Police had to also be involved due to noise complaints unfortunately. Maybe the facility should hire more people to regulate the facility better. Or maybe the facility should specify rules to parties and guest. I spent 1800 dollars for 9 night and would never consider coming back again.

Serious elevator issues here. One of the three elevators was out all weekend. The parking elevator worked but is alarmingly slow and somewhat erratic. Some mold in rooms, according to my friends who were in other rooms, although I saw none. The biggest issue was with trying to get food, first came the "lunch buffet" which was the only thing available at lunch and was hot dogs and hamburgers for $35/person?! We walked across the street to the Shake Shack and got much nicer hamburgers for a lot less... but in the mall adjacent there is also a Potbelly sandwich shop and a bunch of other options. For dinner, we decided to support the hotel and eat there, but the dining area was so understaffed that it was 20 minutes before someone took our order and brought us water -- and there were still emp
