Da Vinci Hotel

A very big warning against the Da Vinci Hotel, which will be quite difficult to find as their quite dirty old front is somewhat hidden in the quite dirty street they're located in, and doesn’t reflect their prices. In general, the hotel is nothing like on the website - while looking like a fancy boutique hotel on the official pictures, the lobby is quite shabby and there’s a strong odour of the quite distinct rat- and cockroach repellent which is being used in old buildings in New York. As the hotel has a restaurant in the basement and is old and unmaintained, the pests come up to the rooms and there was a quite large cockroach in my room. My room was their most expensive category and the TV, which I had paid a lot of money to be able to relax in front of, did not work. The hotel staff and

Positive: Great location, central and close to Metro stations on a quieter side street. Very nice and helpful staff with good recommenadations. Talk to hotel employee, he was delightful and gave me some great spots to eat breakfast. Negative: Hotel & rooms are quite dated. Clean but shabby. Under the bed needed to be swept. Old, scratchy bedspread. Bathroom shelf was coming off the wall and couldn't be used. No storage in the bathroom other than unusable shelf.

Overall, the experience was ok. The room looked exactly like the photos. The location is convenient — just a short walk to the subway — and the WiFi worked well throughout the stay. On the downside, the bed sheets could be better, and the towels were quite worn — it would be nice if they replaced them. Still, for the price, it’s not a bad choice in NYC.

Friendly and helpful staff. I did not get to try their restaurant. It sounded fabulous, but I was only there for one day. I wish I would’ve had more time. I appreciated the staff suggestions of places to go.|Also, prior to my stay, I had messaged a couple of times and they were amazingly responsive.|I unfortunately didn’t take any lobby photos, but the lobby was adorable.

This hotel was perfect for my husband and I. We loved that even though it’s an old building, it is very clean. Most hotels provide super thin pillows that give you neck pain when you wake up. At the DaVinci Hotel, their pillows to sleep on were very comfortable because they were firm which allows for great sleep! We loved the price, location, quietness of the street and super friendly staff who gave us lots of recommendations, including the authentic Italian restaurant Joe G’s downstairs. We are not sure when we will make it back to NYC, as this was a bucket list for us to visit the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, but when we come back, we will make accommodations to stay at The DaVinci Hotel again.
