Courtyard by Marriott West Orange

Everything was clean. Comfortable beds. Stayed here 1 night to catch a 6 AM flight out of EWR Literally only stayed in the hotel room for 4 hours. We stayed with family the previous days and wanted to be close to the airport due to the early flight. 5 days later I started to get bites which kept multiplying. AND YES IT WAS BED BUGS!!! Luckily, I figured it out 2 weeks later but am still living a nightmare to get rid of them.

I would strongly caution anyone considering staying at the Courtyard by Marriott in West Orange to be aware that having a confirmed reservation does not necessarily guarantee that you will have a room when you arrive. We booked our stay weeks in advance and had already paid for the reservation. We even called ahead of time because I was scheduled to have surgery nearby and would need to recover at the hotel afterward while family members visited to assist with my care. We specifically chose this location because of its proximity to the hospital and because the property advertises amenities such as a pool that my daughter could use while I recovered. Unfortunately, when we arrived to check in, we were told that our reservation was not in their system. The front desk then informed us that

Positive: The hotel is clean, the room is spacious and staff at the front desk were very friendly. Negative: The bed was really hard. They don’t provide complimentary coffee in the lobby. We paid for cappuccinos. We ordered a grande & a tall, she filled them about the same level (~3oz). When we asked about it she said that’s how they are. Not good!!!!

My brother and I had a great stay at the Courtyard. We were broken down due to the snowstorm, and the general Manager, Paulette, took us in with open arms. She got us a room almost immediately, and lengthened our checkout time before we left. She helped us charge our phones and treated us with compassion. Leolanda at the Bistro was also extremely helpful, especially with the crazy amount of customers she had to deal with. Joette was very helpful when we needed to change rooms, and Anetra was empathetic through our struggles. All of them were fantastic hosts, treating us with warmth and understanding. The rooms were clean and neat. Thank you for the kindness!

The room had a bit of a funny smell, but it wasn’t too bad since we were only staying one night. However, we were told breakfast was included, and when we asked the staff working at the “bistro” she said it wasn’t included and it was expensive with limited options so we went out instead. Plenty of close diners! Also I was woken up at 7 am to construction beeping so I wouldn’t stay here if you’re expecting a noiseless place. But it was great for our purpose! Very nice and clean
