A Hidden Gem in Welch, WV I was thoroughly impressed with my stay at the Count Gilu Motel in Welch, WV. The first thing that stood out was how immaculately clean the entire place was—from the rooms to the common areas, everything felt fresh, well-kept, and truly cared for. It’s rare to find a property this spotless, especially one with such a classic, vintage charm. The motel maintains that timeless “Americana” style while still providing comfort and quality. Another huge bonus is the incredible location. The motel is less than a quarter mile from the Hatfield-McCoy Trailhead, making it one of the most convenient lodging options for riders and outdoor enthusiasts. Came to visit someone and this was the closest option. It was ok. I was disappointed after reading the outstanding reviews. I like to support local business and was glad to see a family run motel. The motel is outdated which didn't really bother me. It seemed clean enough. The room smelled of cigarettes which was difficult to handle. The beds were soft and semi comfortable, slept a few hours. Couldn't get the room very warm. I have stayed at far nicer places for less money. Would I stay here again? No. But, it was ok for 1 night.

What a nice surprise after a long day of riding! We checked in and were surprised at how nice and clean everything was. Everyone in our group was pleased and bragged about their stay. We sat around the fire pit and had drinks. The staff told us where the eating places were and also the liquor store. We got take out and ate on the picnic tables outside. All in all, we will certainly be back!

Loved this sweet little gem in Welch WV! The room was quaint and so nostalgic, the staff was accommodating and friendly, the area was quiet and peaceful. We will definitely stay here again.

The Count Gilu is a very nice, family owned motel that has been in business in Welch for many years. It is conveniently located, very clean, the beds are firm, there is plenty of hot water and excellent WIFI and TV. We always stay at Count Gilu when we visit family in Welch. Rooms come with small refrigerator and some rooms are efficiency suites. It is close to several locally owned restaurants, also Wendys, McDonalds and Subway.
