Costa Mesa Inn

I stayed at Costa Mesa Inn from January 4–5 and had a very concerning experience. At check-in, the “front desk” was not a standard office but a converted motel room next door. Staff scanned the front and back of my ID, processed a $200 deposit via tap-to-pay on my debit card, and captured an electronic signature labeled only as “capture signature,” without clear explanation or documentation. I checked out on time, returned my keys, and left the room clean. No damages were noted. Despite this, the motel has refused to return my $200 security deposit and has provided no written or verbal justification. This is an sasy 5 star review for me. Not because this is the best place you can stay, not because it's got the best views, location or amenities. It's because I came here looking for a budget option for a quick weekend stay and had my expectations blown out of the water! The massive TVs, pleasant decor and the abundance of plugs, lights, and food access makes all the difference. Bang for your buck score is through the roof. Don't hesitate. You'll be fine here.

The actual stay was ok, the rooms have been newly refurbished so are modern and clean. Cockroaches running around outside but no evidence of any in our room. However they have not returned my security deposit of $200 despite numerous attempts to contact them over the course of a month.

Staff was very friendly and accommodating! Very nice, clean rooms freshly updated. The picture of the lobby on hotels.com was different but I understand it is a third party site. I would definitely recommend. If I fly into John Wayne again I would stay here again. Connected to a dive bar and a taco shop in the parking lot next door. Across the street from an amazing Goodwill thrift store as well.

DO NOT STAY HERE!! THEY ROBBED MY DEPOSIT, SAYING I DAMAGED THE SHEETS WITH RED DYE HAIR WHEN MY HAIR IS BLACK. I was reading all the reviews and I am not the only one that is affected by their robbery. Also I didn't have a microwave when it states on their website rooms have microwaves. This place is awful and just the fact that they think robbing clients deposit is ok and also lie about the statements is nasty and awful.
