Customer Reviews
Stayed in the Colonial Houses-great experience. Williamsburg is fun! Enjoyed our stay. Recommend trying the taverns for lunch or dinner-may need a reservation. Bring chairs if going to the fireworks and set up early. Enjoyed just wandering the streets and seeing the sights.
We stayed at Peter Hay’s Kitchen. First, the good. This place is adorable (on the outside) and in a super convenient location at the corner of Queen & Duke of Gloucester. You park right behind the house, so that was also convenient. The heat worked great—it was cold while we were there. The Keurig in the kitchen made surprisingly drinkable coffee. Thus ends the "pros". ||The cons: this place was absolutely top-to-bottom shabby and beat on the inside. Cracked, stained sinks and tub, ratty carpet, rusty fridge, scuffs and scratches everywhere, old, saggy, uncomfortable bed and sofa, a tub that didn’t drain so every shower turned into you standing in 6 inches of dirty water. It was like staying at your Gran’s house and she hasn’t fixed or replaced anything in 40 years. We were awa
Extremely disappointed in the room. For the money, and expecting a lovely room in a historic building like we had 20 years ago, we were shocked by the plain, bare walled room with absolutely NO historic ambience. The furnishings were certainly nothing special, and the amenities seriously lacking. In addition, when the heat kicked in, it sounded like an airplane taking off right over the bed. Unfortunately, cannot recommend.
Stayed in a high dollar historic tavern, which was anything but historic. The room was barely furnished, with totally bare walls. There was absolutely no historic ambience at all. Whenever the heat kicked on, it sounded like a plane taking off right over our bed. For the money, th|e bedding was not premium, and amenities were lacking. A chain hotel like Hilton would've had this place beat hands down. We had stayed in a historic building 20 years ago, and it was gorgeous, so was so looking forward to this trip. Unfortunately cannot recommend the historic properties any longer.
Very conflicted with the stay here. We paid over 300 a night X3 due to a local event. Staying in Colonial Williamsburg was really cool, but our room was disappointing. Uncomfortable bed, pealing paint, and mold in several areas of the bathroom. The walls were dirty from scuff marks and the lamps were so wobbly I thought they would fall over. But I get it!! It’s a 1700’s “experience” I suppose. I think the hotel could add better beds, comforter, and fixtures for the prices they are charging.
