Clarion Hotel Conference Center on Lake Erie

I was driving back up north from Erie but decided to stay here for the night due to a severe snowstorm. It was the cheapest decent hotel around the area. Average hotel, you get what you pay for, can’t really complain much. What I will complain about though, is that the lady at the front desk was not very knowledgeable about the rooms. We requested a room with USB charging ports (which is pretty common in hotel lamps), only to go up to the room and find out there was no USB charging ports. It was also apparently one of the newer renovated rooms, yet there were stains on the floor. We immediately went back down to change rooms and got an older room, but at least cleaner, however still no USB charging. Other than that, there’s nothing else I can complain about. To start, we get there at night exhausted and there is a sign at the front “will return shortly”. Waited a good 10 mins before I walked to the bar area and found a worker. I asked when the front staff would return? Rudely says “it’s me what do you need?” I said to check in! She rudely walks past me headed towards the front. We get checked in, the tv doesn’t work, the alarms in the room next door were going off all night, the tub has rust, the ceiling above the shower looks like it wants to cave in. Not many outlets near the bed table to plug a phone charger in, just a very old extension cord. Black mold on the walls, extensive water damage, mouse traps. This is definitely a 1 and done stay.

We have stayed at your hotel several times in the past and have always had a positive experience, which is why this most recent stay was especially disappointing. Upon check-in, we discovered multiple significant maintenance issues with our room: The bathtub faucet continuously leaked and could not be turned off. The bathroom sink drained directly onto the floor due to disconnected plumbing beneath the sink, which caused flooding. We were only able to temporarily reconnect the pipes ourselves. The bathroom vent made a constant clattering noise throughout our stay. The hallway outside our room frequently smelled of marijuana, which was unpleasant and concerning. I was hoping that the other reviews of this place were exaggerated, but they were not. Very musty, mildew smell throughout. Clear signs of previous water damage. Very thin walls, so you hear normal-volume conversation in the rooms around you. Broken phone and tv in my room. Dead seagull outside my window. Upon check out, staff didn’t ask how my stay was—they know it is below standard. I won’t be back and would not recommend.

We enjoyed our short stay but the hotel could use some upgrades.....one elevator was not working and it was actually taped up on the buttons with duct tape. Also we had hoped for restaurants, etc' within walking distance. On a positive note, the staff was excellent especially the woman in the breakfast nook area.
