My group of friends tent camped at Chewing Black Bones in late July 2025. Service was good. I easily made a reservation online. I had to call twice - once to clarify something in my confirmation email, and once because we ended up arriving later than anticipated. I would describe the customer service experience of these phone calls as a bit curt but ultimately effective in that I got my questions answered. The campground has an absolutely fantastic location with gorgeous scenery. We had no problems finding our site. The ground wasn't the most even, but we are backpackers so we've dealt with far worse. Our stay came after the supposed bathroom renovation. The bathrooms were decently clean by campground standards (some bugs but it's not like you can keep them all out since they're attract

The women behind the desk looks like she doesnt want the job and doenst want you to be there. ||There was a toilets and shower building, but they leave the door open al time (heavy rock in front of the door). So you are showering and going to the toilet with everywhere mosquitos, fly’s and spiders and the ceiling is black of the poop of the insects. One toilet couldnt close because the lockpin was to high for the hole. (Looks like a simple fix to me). The showers where yellow on the floor. They put a rubber showermat on it and that was full of hair. |They were explaining it was just bought this year and the shower buildings are new (Didnt get that with how dirty it looked). They were still fixing stuff from the previous owner. So maybe next year better? |Only good thing was the full hook

We stayed for just one night and dry camped. The serene landscape brought a deep sense of peace and calm. The grass was well-maintained, and access to the lake was extremely easy. Although we didn’t use any of the accommodations (such as restrooms), we had no issues using the dump station. The host manager was very polite and welcoming. We definitely would have stayed longer if we had more time!

A lovely location, but we are glad we only had one night here. The amenities block was closed, and did not look like it would be usable anytime soon, the few “portaloo” toilets in place were not clean and the mobile shower trailer had now power and was not even hooked up to water, so that was useless too. On top of that, not being told anything about those limitation and being charged full price was really poor form. And the attitude of the woman in the office when my wife checked in felt like we were intruding by being there.||We could have just free camped somewhere to use our own facilities.||Like I said, nice location, but that’s the extent of anything good.

Tent Campers BEWARE — Absolutely Disgusting Bathrooms 🤢🤢🤢 Updated July: If you care even a little about cleanliness, DO NOT stay here. The bathrooms and showers are hands-down the worst I’ve ever seen at any campground. There were hundreds of dead bugs in and around the sinks. One sink was covered by thick, murky grime I couldn’t even identify. Toilets were filthy. Showers were stained with rust-colored streaks and smelled strongly of metal and mildew. The water even had a rusty taste. And get this — they just “renovated” the place two weeks ago. Hot water was the only good part. But honestly, it didn’t make up for how gross everything else was. I kept wondering if the host has ever actually tried using those sinks or toilets — I doubt they’d last more than a few seconds in there. The
